Here is a story to tug at your heartstrings.
Logan (6) stayed with us two nights while his parents were in the hospital for Shawn’s knee replacement. I woke up at 5, and as usual when waking in the night, turned on a lamp and opened the devotional booklet. There was a slight noise which sounded quite close. Maybe I was hearing a cow in the pasture, but when I turned, I saw a small body in the recliner.
My first instinct was to scoop him up and put him in bed with me, but I knew I couldn’t lift him. I covered him with a down throw and went to consult with John. We decided to leave him there, thinking he needed the sleep. I went back to bed and don’t remember sleeping. At 6:20 there was a thump. By the time I sat up, Logan was talking cheerfully with John in the next room. He claimed he wasn’t asleep when I covered him and proved it by saying I went to the bathroom. My question is, did he sleep between 5 and 6:20? Surely he did. For his teacher’s sake, I hope he did.
As for the photo, the little toy camera lives on the bedside table at night, where my pockets are unloaded. I never expected to need a camera in the middle of the night, but it was eager to be involved.
I was wondering where they camera came from! I’m glad you explained. It’s a nice story. 🙂

The camera is nearly always within reach. I felt sorry for Logan while he was sleeping, or appearing to sleep, but he needed no sympathy once he was up. He chatted with John, trying to see how much computer time and TV time he could get before school. He was a bundle of activity until we drove him to the bus.

Kids that age are amazing, aren’t they? They do everything with such enthusiasm. When they’re awake, they’re 100% awake. When they’re asleep, they’re 100% asleep. I’m in a 60/40 position one way or the other most days. 🙂

At least 60/40 adds up to 100! Some days I only make it to 93.

That indeed is precious! I hope he slept a little more in there!
Praying for his mom’s recovery as well

Logan didn’t appear to need more sleep when he got up. I should look to see if my eyes are bloodshot. Thank you for prayers for Shawn. She will appreciate knowing that you prayed for her.

Poor guy must be homesick. Even with the best neighbors in the world, it’s not home and Mom isn’t there. He is a real trooper.

I saw him only twice when I thought he was missing his parents. I find that totally amazing. Like you said, he is a real trooper.

I never thought about that! I hope you are right. I have the feeling I might leave rust marks when I hug my children.

Thank you, Sheryl. Logan claimed he was awake when I covered him up, which means he could have been awake when I took the photo. I’ll never know for sure. His mother is home now, and he is sleeping in his own bed.
