There were no planned activities until the wedding at 4 pm on a Sunday. Seven of us squeezed in our vehicle and went to a Lutheran church. We met nephew Anders, Caroline, and baby Rowan there. In talking to the pastor after the service, they discovered they knew people in common. Among others, they knew the founder of the high school John attended.
We had lunch together at a Philly Steak place In one photo, I had everyone except Chris.
The wedding was lovely. After the vows were made, the ushers moved a table to the center with an empty container and three glasses of sand. The pastor had white sand, representing God. Bride and groom had colored sand. White sand was poured first, the foundation of their marriage. The three of them took turns pouring.
The result was lovely.
People are the most important thing at weddings. We have photos of the grandparents and parents of the groom and one of the couple at the reception.
They were not messy with the cutting of the cake, maybe because it was cheesecake instead of a buttercream concoction.
I haven’t been to a wedding recently and had no idea what people did when the bride and groom left the church. We used to use confetti, but that was replaced with bird seed. What did we have for this wedding? Sparklers!!! It was beautiful. The young couple will be flying to Utah in a few days, back to their jobs and their new life together.

Lauren was the most natural bride I’ve ever seen. Some are so gussied up you can hardly recognize them.

We are rich in people named Chris. (Note the quick side-step to avoid an apostrophe with Chris) This was a fun wedding for us. I hope you go to one soon, if that is what you’d enjoy.

The weddings here all use sparklers now. It is really pretty. I know when my son got married he made his bride promise not to “mash” the cake into his face. He explained that he wanted the symbolism of feeding and nurturing each other to be there, rather than smearing cake and frosting. I heartily approved!

I’m glad to know that sparklers are popular. I thought it was fantastic in person, probably because I always liked sparklers. I didn’t hold one at the wedding, though, because I had the toy camera in my hand.

No! I didn’t write my name in the sky with a sparkler. I never thought of it, being mesmerized by the sparks flying about. Please tell me how you used sparklers.

As kids, on the fourth of July we would run with them and see how far we could get before they burned out. We would twirl like we were in parades and we would stand and write our names in the air, rather like writing your name in the snow. Only with sparklers the letters disappeared before you were done writing.

I always think the idea of smearing cake on the birthday person’s face is a total waste of such deliciousness.

LOL that is so true also!! Much easier to eat the cake and frosting when it is in one piece instead of smeared all over our faces :).
