I think John said it was 49F (9.4C) degrees when we went out to walk. All I know for sure is that my spring jacket had to come off. The neighbors near the stop sign had given me permission to borrow their mail post until I came back from the creek. What life-savers they are! After picking up the jacket, I shed the light windbreaker, too. We may still have a few more cold days, but the post has officially declared it is now springtime.
Just ten days before, Marla took a photo of my heaviest sweatshirt and knit hat on their post. She had a slightly different angle from the one I took. Many people viewed it on her Facebook page.
As we ate breakfast, I saw a hummingbird hover by the red crystal in a garden wind-spinner. I jumped up and put sugar water in the microwave to boil. It didn’t take long to cool. When we sat in the same chairs for lunch, a hummingbird stayed on the feeder long enough for me to tell John to look. We both saw it. I also saw one check out the feeder on the deck near my computer. Within an hour, he was back, tasting nectar from all three flowers on the feeder. The flowers share the same well of sugar water. I’d love to ask that bird if it tasted better from one flower than another.
I am so glad you are finally getting spring weather! I am hopeful that after this next round of snowstorms we will get there too! It has never failed to show up yet…..

I’m amazed that you have hummingbirds already. I don’t think that I usually see any until July or August.

The hummingbirds came on April 13 last year, too. Various bird sites have maps to show migration. I wish I could remember where to find them.

Lucky you!! I love how you sort of undress along the way, haha!! Your neighbours must get a kick out of you, Anne! Well as for us, maybe it’ll get nicer after the storm that’s expected Sunday & Monday. Grrrr!

If the neighbors snicker at us behind their hands, we are blissfully unaware of it. I hope you get some Spring weather soon.

I need to put out my hummingbird feeders tomorrow! Your jacket signals they neighbors.

The hummingbirds looked so tiny and defenseless today. In a few weeks, the bully will probably be back chasing everyone else away, and he won’t seem so small.

So the new motto is Strip for Spring is it. We’ve bee promised proper Spring weather next week but I’m hoping it will turn out to be jacket weather today as well. I hope things stay on en even keel for you now and Spring is here to stay,

I once saw hundreds of hummers feeding peacefully in Tennessee. Don’t know why mine are so fractious.

Well they seem to be very territorial here!

Our mailbox is across the road from our driveway, how lovely and cute with your coats hanging there. ❤ There is something so friendly about it.

I wouldn’t think it was very friendly if someone stole my jacket. It’s safe, though. Everyone knows a retired policeman lives there. He and his wife and daughter are always alert to what is going on around them.

You are so lucky to have hummingbirds already! Last year I bought a feeder and put out the liquid. I changed it often but never saw a single hummingbird. The year before I had geraniums in my window box and they were there everyday. Go figure.

That’s not fair! You did everything right and should have had lots of hummingbirds.

“They say” that last year was a bad year for them. Opinions differ but some thought there may have been a big event during the migration that killed a lot of them. Hoping for the best this year although I think it’s too early in our area. I should google it.

I do smile at the “post posts” … this one just like the last one. And look at the gorgeous green grass and trees in the background – sigh. And hummingbirds – sigh. Have you ever checked out this trio of hummingbird web cams? My neighbor Marge loved her hummingbirds too and she had feeders at the front windows as well as around her deck and got quite a few of them. I found this site that has many web cam, but this one has three different hummingbird nests. https://explore.org/livecams/hummingbirds/bella-hummingbird-nest

Hi Anne, Your hummingbird sighting gives me great hope they will soon be visiting here again. I still have some juncos…they disappear as soon as it gets warmer for a long spell. I will miss them, but I do love the hummingbirds. I love your coat rack…cute!

I think our juncos may have left. I hadn’t thought about them, but I don’t remember seeing any last week. It’s easier to see birds come than go!

No hummers here yet. I adore them. Now that you mention it, I wonder why they choose the flowers that they do when the red flowers all look the same? Go figure, huh?

Poor hummingbirds! We pulled in our feeders last night because the ant moats above them were frozen.

Cute post Anne. Your clothes on the posts are surely the first harbingers of spring in the hood. 😊
