After our small family reunion, we settled into a routine for daughter Kate’s visit. Each day began with a walk to the creek, with the obligatory photo on the first walk.
David took the week off to be with his mother and me. Some days were warm enough for us to eat lunch on the porch. The dog loved this, because she had entertainment watching birds while waiting for us to be attentive to her again.
All of us enjoyed stopping at Sunburst Falls, my favorite in this area. David took Kacey out on the rocks where she found a place to step in the water.
Going further up the mountain, we drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway. True to its name, the road is on the very top of these old rounded mountains. It was a chilly day, so we wore wraps while eating our picnic lunch. A very light shower threatened us, but we fought back and finished our meal peacefully. This was the most vacation-looking day of our week together.

I’m glad that David had time with his mom. You too! I know you treasure these visits.

So nice! I’m jealous of your video taking, lol! I can’t wait to go walk with you, if we are both up for it, someday soon!!
It’s still cold there? Do y’all ever get a summer or are y’all’s much later in the year? It’s already hot and so humid here! I wish it would rain already and give us a bit of relief. The only time you don’t care about it is when you’re in the water!!

It has been a very cool spring. We’ll get hot weather, but it often cools down at night. It would be so much fun to walk with you.

That’s great that David had the week off to spend with his mom and you – I hope the sprinkles on this picnic were the only ones all week. Save travels to Kate who may be on her way home today or just arrived.

Ahh – well today she is likely home by now. Hope she had a safe and seamless trip.

With several stops, Kate’s drive home takes about 14 hours. I’m going to bed now, and she is going to call David when she gets home.

That’s a long haul. I admire people like Kate who can travel long journeys like that and alone at that. I couldn’t do it (even if was on surface streets … you know I am no fan of expressway driving).

Kate has guts. Guess she got the long-driving genes from John. I used to drive one hour of one of those long drives so that John could take a nap. One was enough for me.

Yes, same for me. I was a nervous wreck the last hour of our trip to visit my grandmother in Toronto – multiple expressway changes in the last part of the trip. I’d exit the expressway and then always a traffic jam on the main drag. Most people can take the streetcar, subway, bus or the “Go Train” to go from the suburbs to the City. You don’t really need a car.

The parkway has lovely views of the mountains. We live in the valleys and don’t see the long views very often.
