Neighbor Logan is a Teenager!!!

I met Logan when he was four years old. The first photograph I took of him was on Halloween when Shawn brought him over, wearing his costume. Over a year later I took the first picture of David and Logan playing together. Now Logan is 13 years old!!

As his birthday party began, he and David played a game of chess. It didn’t last long. David said Logan won quickly. I suspect the new teen has already played more games than David ever did.

We had chips and dip before dinner, then we were engrossed in watching a slide show of little Logan.

Like many folks, Logan didn’t know where to look while we sang Happy Birthday to him. With the deep breath he took, he could have easily blown out 13 candles.

After dinner we sat on the porch, watching David and Logan play with a new game. Since I’ve known him, Logan has had a victory routine when he does something well. I was hoping he would perform, and he did. I laugh every time.

Logan asked that we come with him for a moonlight swim, and we did, although we sat on the deck and watched him. I was impressed that he stood at the top of the steps and did a flip into the water. There wasn’t enough distance for him to complete the flip, but he landed (or watered?) on his back.

It has been a privilege to watch Logan growing up. His inquiring mind is always active, and his body is disciplined from participating in many sports. I am impressed that he has wonderful manners and is aware of people’s feelings. Those two traits alone set him apart from many his age and older. Thank you for celebrating with me this milestone of a new teenager from the best neighborhood in the world.

      1. There must be a way – you could ask, but the next best thing is I guess you could save all the actual blog links into a Word document and Logan can read them later, but has to open up each link. A fellow blogger wrote a blog post once and his wife surprised him for his birthday with a printed-out book of all his blog posts to date. She had it made into a coffee table-type book. I don’t know if this company could segregate certain posts or not and make a book of them. The name of the company is pixxibookdotcom.

      2. Anne, I went to the search box on your blog and searched for “Logan” and it brought up all the posts that had “Logan “in the title. I’m sure these are not all of the posts with Logan in the but there are Many. The other thing you could do, but would take a lot of doing, is go back through all of your posts and categorize any that have Logan in them. You would have to edit the post to add the category. You might want to start categorizing any future posts about Logan just in case you decide to do this. Having them made into a book like Linda suggested would make a wonderful gift for him perhaps graduation in a few years.
Happy Belated Birthday to Logan! 🎈

        1. This is wonderful information. Thank you very much, Ruth. My daughters are coming to visit, so I’ll have to put off a serious start until after they leave. This gives me a direct focus to begin.

  6. Looking forward to the day Young Master Logan announces his bid for Congress and Anne Mehrling (his publicist) releases the news. You’re a good neighbor.

  7. I’ve thought in the past he might (Logan) become a meteorologist putting up the weather bloons for upper wind forecasting. John kept him quite busy, as did the boys, batting a balloon around. On his next visit, tell him the Rooster sends Birthday wishes his way. .
