Greetings on Monday

You’d think things would gear up slowly on a Monday morning, but I communicated with four people before 9:00 am. Some of Joyce’s mail was put in my box last week, so I left it in hers on the way up the street. There was a package shoved to the back. I stopped and texted her, thinking she’d want to take it in before going to work. We had time to wish each other a cheery good morning with our phones.

Neighbor Holly stopped on her way to work, encouraging me about walking. I’ve learned that newer cars shut off when stopped, but I still find it disconcerting. I bite my tongue to keep from asking how she’ll get to work when her car won’t go. Someone should tell me if taking your foot off the brake or tapping the gas pedal starts it again. Maybe AI just knows!

Bob stopped at the stop sign after taking Logan to school, knowing I was at the furthest point from my house. He said, “Fifty cents for a ride home.” I told him I didn’t have any money, and we both laughed as he drove away.

The last greeter was Bob’s brother Tom, here for a short while before going back to Florida. I asked what he was going to do with his early start. “I’m going to help Bob chop wood today,” he replied. “I know it’s not good to just sit and watch TV. People say you have to keep moving to stay alive.”

I said, “I agree, but my saying is shorter. You SIT – You DIE!”

This is what I saw going toward the stop sign.

  1. What a pleasant fall morning. Beautiful colors! I don’t like that shut off feature either. I drove my aunt’s car that had it and it worked just fine but it is disconcerting. It does start as soon as you take your foot off the brake, and they say if you drive in areas where there is a lot of stop and go it can save you as much as 5% in gas.

  2. Those fall colours take me back so many years to when we lived in Montréal, and would go up to the Laurentian to see the fall colours. Thank you for sharing.

  3. You’re a popular gal. I like your Fall colors Anne. I have collected some colorful leaf photos at the Park, but many of the trees are still green, so my “Walktober” post may have to wait a little bit longer. I didn’t know about the car shutting off when your foot is on the brake. I would find that disconcerting as well, but in part because I have only had four cars in my lifetime and three of them had issues where they stalled out at a light … it was very scary. The Regal would stop while I was driving it until they found out the code that caused that and could fix it. My current car is a 2009 and has only 11,500 miles on it; the one before was 21 years old and about 84,000 miles when I had to get rid of it – too many electrical issues which were dangerous.

      1. I’m not big on getting a car with a lot of bells and whistles. One day a woman at the Park started telling me a story about how her daughter was being followed by a guy in a car and so she told Siri (on her car, not her phone) to “take notes” and dictated the guy’s license plate number when he passed her and was looking in the car, then drove off. Too much extravagance for me. I was disappointed OnStar was discontinued on my car the end of 2022 because my car was 2G and thus “sunsetted”.

          1. I’m not about that at all. That’s why I am still using Windows 7 and Windows 10 sits there, just getting updates and virus scans … well I like things that are like an old shoe. 🙂

              1. Ha ha – the Windows 10 computer from work can’t upgrade to Windows 11 either, so I’ll just get acclimated to Windows 10 and they won’t support it, i.e. Google Chrome is no longer supported in Windows 7, so I had to go to Firefox which I am not keen on.
