Oh! Life is exciting at my house now! Friend Brit has been training with the local volunteer fire department, and she just went to her first fire. I had already gone to bed and didn’t know until the next morning that she had done this. The abandoned house was off the beaten track and mostly consumed by the time someone called about it. There was no one to rescue and no reason to enter a building that was already gone. Brit said she was tired after pulling those heavy hoses around. Surely this was an ideal first experience. She shared two photos where the faces would be hard to identify and the department name is not visible.
Twice since then I’ve been here when Brit responded to an alarm – both times she ran through the house to jump in her car and race off. I would feel silly cheering her on, so I pray for her safety and that of her cohorts.
Brit takes wonderful photos with her phone, and this one caught my fancy. Kacey is bounding toward her, and the sturdy old oak tree is in the background.

Wow! That IS exciting!
That oak tree is just perfect for a swing, tire, rope, hammock…some kind of swing!

The swing that was on the tree broke, and we didn’t replace it. I prefer sitting on the screened porch away from critters.

I just knew it had been begging for a swing! Oh well, Logan is too big for one now anyway, right? And you prefer the porch. It’s a grand tree!

I wish Logan and David would climb that tree. I should say that in front of Logan’s dad.

Good idea! Maybe he would put up a tire swing (with your permission) for him to swing on.

That’s exciting – I didn’t know women could be volunteer firefighters, but come to think of it – why not? I like the silhouettes of the firefighters against the smokey backdrop and I like Kacey bounding to meet the newest member of the family. Those are great pics.

Brit is a good photographer. She might be the only woman in our fire department, but she met a couple of others fighting a fire in the next district.

The wonders of phone photography instead of lugging a big camera around. I have taken 1000s of pics with my compact digital and it never disappoints, unlike the boo boos with the DSLR. That’s amazing about a woman being a volunteer fire fighter, but why not if they can do the job? My HVAC tech is a woman. She is short, but I wouldn’t say petite. She does all the routine inspections. She had a B.A. in Business Administration, couldn’t find a job so she decided to go into the trades for HVAC certification.

I did a few years as a paid firefighter in Hartford, CT prior to my CT SP career. Never got to put on the feathers of the Indian however. Played Army as a kid, no one plays Navy. USMC was my lure militarily. Our fire chief here in MD is a woman. Oh how the times change. Mary Agnes was the President of the Auxiliary for 12 years, I was the Treasurer. Got them to drop the moniker (Ladies Auxiliary.) There are now 3 men in the organization. You Go Girl (Brit.) !!!! You also old friend!

The oak tree is beautiful. Abandoned houses always make me think of the time when it must have been occupied. Thank you and Brit for the photos.

I pray for Brit every time she responds to a fire call. Yesterday David said the call was for a car accident. I didn’t have an opportunity to ask about that.
