Visiting blogger Kim and I have walked to the creek four days in a row. Today Kim noticed movement and heard clucking noises near the flag pole at the fire station. She identified the guinea fowl. I had never seen any that close. I don’t know which of us had a camera aimed at the birds first. Kim got the best still photo while I was taking video clips. Kim hasn’t posted her photo yet, but her blog is here.
The birds wanted to get away from us and melted through the bushes into the parking lot.
We followed them as they scurried away, just on this side of the creek.
Enjoyed with your’s friend creek walked. Beautiful video birds cross the road.

They can make a racket but will let you know when someone is coming .Almost as good as a dog for security.

Do you see guineas often?

Not since 2011–last time I was in South Africa. Our neighbors in Texas kept them for years.

Do you know if they ate guineas?

I don’t recall if they did or not. Mainly they kept them to warn of predators. They would get loud if a coyote or skunk got near! You can eat the eggs.

Visiting Dave said guinea eggs are as hard as stone.

I can’t say, never having to my knowledge eaten one. I just think they are pretty, and I love pictures of guineas and have a few pieces of guinea art work from South Africa. But, I did get a laugh of of visiting Dave’s comment!

I had never heard of Guinea Fowl and last year a fellow blogger in Tennessee had a post about seeing some on the side of the road. A few weeks later I was at Heritage Park and four of them had “escaped” from the petting farm and were running around the historical area of Heritage Park – what a sight to see as they sure are different looking. Apparently they are used by some farmers as “watch birds” as they will make loud noises if they see predators.

I’ve heard that, too, that the birds are good watch birds.

Cool videos of the Guinea Fowl. We are used to seeing wild turkeys roam in the woods. It has to be gratifying to have another blogger friend walk with you and spend time to visit. Happy Veteran’s Day. I just put out our flag. Enjoy your weekend. oxox

Yesterday was lovely, and today couldn’t make up its mind. It didn’t bother me, because I was inside all day. oxox

Typical for us: we see sunshine and blue sky just before sunset. Most of the day was cold and overcast. Hard frost last night. We rehearsed two hours for our cantata yesterday. Have a great week. oxox
