Weather from East to Northeast

January 10 was a day for weather in the United States, as reported by relatives. All kinds of things swept the country.

In North Carolina brother Bob and Beth had a geyser at the street, runoff from their gutters in Winston Salem.

Nathaniel took a photo of flooding in Charlotte, NC.

My neighbors had water flowing through their French drain, still going today — 48 hours after the rain stopped.

Daughter Kate and Michael had downed limbs in their yard after a wind/rain storm in New Jersey.

I would have chosen Rose and John’s snow in Washington state. They celebrated by hiking in it.

I’m happy that none of us experienced tornadoes. I heard four touched down in Florida, as well as numerous other reports of twisters in other states. We have many things to be thankful for.

  1. Great photo of Rose and John! They look marvelous. Our rain had come and gone, but it was really windy yesterday and the day before! I am sure I will have a mess in the yard again; I spotted a few in the back this morning.

  2. More rain tomorrow and really cold coming first of next week….After all it is Winter time even in the South. Doesn’t last long…we just have to deal with it…and stay home if possible.

  3. I much prefer our temperate climate. It rarely gets hot although in the past few days we have recorded 30 and 30+ degrees That is unusual for us. Summer temperatures hover around mid to late twenties. And in winter we complain if it gets below 10.

      1. Thanks. I don’t like the cold and hated living in Montréal in the winter months and in Glasgow during the winter months. As I say, I much prefer our temperate climate

  4. That’s a great photo of John and Rose – yes, they are the only ones smiling with this weather. We have a “Bomb Cyclone” event and supposed to have a 45-50 mph winds all weekend. I did hear about Charlotte’s weather and thought about Nathaniel. I hope everyone stays safe as this wicked weather takes its sweet time wrecking havoc.

      1. Yes, it’s terrible here and 200,000 people/businesses without power and with high winds and cold here (wind chill between -5 and -20 tonight and next few days), those people won’t have power back until Sunday night/Monday time frame. We had four inches of snow, thunder snow, then rain, then a flash freeze. Hardly any snow left, but ice everywhere. I won’t be pulling the car out of the garage for a long time.

          1. I follow a blogger who lives in Washington State and she is visiting her daughter in San Diego but remarked on how cold it was – similar to our temps/windchills. I awoke to -25 windchill/real feel and 0 air temps. They say 30 minutes of exposed skin and you’ll have frostbite. We got more snow – good as it covered the ice, but it came in drifts. Snow was frozen.

              1. The weather is wacky everywhere. It’s quite cold in the house right now – thermostat is at 75 but the cupboard doors are open and it feels almost breezy. I hope you get your hoped-for snow. 🙂

                  1. It will be pretty to see it there at your place, not just in the mountains. I was watching “All Creatures Great & Small” (PBS – have to stream it as I don’t have TV) … it’s at a good part and the weather alarm went off – figured I’d better run down the hall to hear what it said. We’re having -25 to -30 windchill overnight. That is dangerously low and we have people who still have no power from Friday’s storm – northern suburbs. Our part of SE Michigan had no power loss issues this storm.

  6. The weather up here in British Columbia is crazy too! We went from sweater weather 68 in a matter of days! It’s been a freezing couple of days here, but thankfully it’s warming today and over the next few days we’ll be back to above freezing.
