Ice Tapping with Logan

Neighbor Logan (13) and I hadn’t planned to walk together, but he came out of his house as I reached the end of my driveway. There were oodles of small, icy puddles to delight our ears. I didn’t realize there were several techniques until I saw the videos of Logan’s footwork. In this one he explored with his whole foot, used his toe, did some twists, and ended with his heel.

A longer stretch of ice gave him scope for moon walking and running in place. Together, we stepped on EVERY puddle on the road. We each did some and shared a few.

Logan didn’t miss a thing. He commented on one puddle that had more esthetic appeal than all the others. We put that in the art category.

We decided at the stop sign that we would go all the way to the creek. As we crossed the highway, there was not a moving vehicle in sight both coming and going. I think that is the first time that has happened to me. We spotted Lise walking Rosie near the firehouse, and she turned around and went back to the creek with us. What fun it was to have a group! We took photos of each other to record the event and headed home.

  1. I love the special relationship you have with Logan. It’s fun to have a neighbor with whom you can be delightfully yourself. I love that Logan sees a fun-loving mature person, and that you have a true friendship with a young teen.

    1. Logan is a breath of fresh air. He used to come over to play games, but now he often suggests we just sit and talk. He is learning the art of conversation, and it’s his own choice. I’m impressed with that.

  2. Beautiful & funny video.Logan is so lucky he didn’t fall! I love that Logan sees a loving funny mature person, and that you have a really true friendship with a young teen. You are so lucky, Anne!

  3. Logan takes his cues from you, except you don’t do any moon walking … I was cringing as he was sliding back and forth. Logan is old enough to remember Michael Jackson? He must have seen videos since MJ died in 2009. Pretty clever of Logan! Yesterday I had to use the shovel to brace myself as the strong winds were buffeting me around as I walked from the house to the garage to run the car – I was worried I’d go flying and I’m no lightweight. For a minute I thought you meant “your” Lise.

    1. I don’t know if Logan remembers Michael Jackson. He knows the moon walk!

Your struggle with the wind was a bit frightening.

My Lise is still recovering from hip replacement. She and I walked to the creek together the last time she was here. We hope to do it again when she comes near Easter.

      1. That’s amazing. Yes it was frightening and the weather advisory scares me as well although it was -25 this morning. I’m going to finish here and do a load of clothes again before I hope into bed. I thought Lise may have decided to recuperate in NC but didn’t think she would do that as she’d have post-op appointments and a long plane trip would be rigorous for her right now.

        1. Lise gets tired quickly, which is probably post op reaction.

I know it was a typo that I would normally just translate and read on. Loved your writing “hope into bed .”. That’s the way I get ready for bed — I cram in lots of things and hope I’m in bed by midnight. It often fails.

          1. Yes, it’s only been four weeks right? Well, you’re so used to writing Lise, it came naturally. I have a fellow blogger names Esther and for some reason, every time I type her name my finger find the word “Evelyn” – it could be I wrote to Evelyn, my friend who gave you the list of BBQ places, so often, my fingers type those letters instead. I told her not to be slighted if I call her the wrong name. The brain sometimes.

              1. That makes sense. She is used to recuperating and being by herself the last month. That’s nice she is in a book club. I’ve never done that before. I didn’t make my Goodreads goal – hopefully this year.
