Mystery Meat for One

I’m using up things from the freezer and thawed a half package of meat that I couldn’t identify. I knew it was either ground beef or ground turkey. It came from Aldi’s, but I had no other package to compare it to. The fine print referred to meat/poultry, while the big print had been discarded. Whatever meat it was, it did well with a recipe for Sloppy Joes, normally a beef-based dish. I will be very careful to keep the identified half next time.

Neighbors said the temperature was going to be almost in a summer range. When I ate on the porch, it was 77F (25C)! My view included daffodils in full bloom and forsythia that is just beginning to show color.

  1. I am often guilty of failing to label food in the freezer, especially for Roger. I should be writing the carbs per serving on leftovers or snack foods, but my forgetter forgets to remember. Live and learn. Glad you had a healthy dose of spring. Here we have something they call an “onion snow” i never learned why it is called that but now that daffodills are pushing through the soil and buds are showing, and hyacinths are pushing up, it is bound to snow once more. Blessings, Michele

  2. That little touch of vcolour that approaching Spring brings is a little bit of Promise and lifts us.

I have no idea what a Sloppy Joe is, but as long as you enjoyed it, it must be good. Huge Hugs

  3. I do that too. Especially putting leftovers in a container in the freezer and not marking it. I always think I’ll remember. Silly me. glad it worked out OK. I make sloppy joes for Paul sometimes. (The kids loved them growing up) Your view is lovely!!

  4. We also love sloppy joes growing up and still do occasionally. I’m glad your meat was not only edible, but had not gotten freezer burnt! We’ve had that happen on many occasion. I’m glad you ate on the back patio, that porch would have been quite warm yesterday!

  5. Our forsythia is starting to bloom too! Once in a while I come across a mystery package in the freezer. I’m pretty good at labeling but every once in a while…

  6. Dear Anne, I wanted to say hello. I am at Mamas’ now and am reading when I can. Commenting not too often, but you are dear to me. How is your grandson? How are you? That view is beautiful. love, Michele

    1. David wanted independence and moved out on his own. I’m finding living alone is peaceful — no one to please but me! Daughter Lise is coming to visit, and I will find that delightful.

I’ve missed your posts, but I was struggling to keep up with folks I follow. Things have settled down now. I’ve concentrated on trimming shrubs and am now up to where I was last March.

Your life must have been a bit uneven the last few months. I hope you and your mother are doing well.

      Love, Anne

  7. I have had mystery meat adventures too…the worst was when I thought I had 2 left over enchilada sauce bits, but one was actually spaghetti sauce. Not Good! I have been cleaning up those bags all winter, and am now finally down to mostly berries in the fridge freezer. 🙂

  8. I love your mystery meat story. LOL! I recently took a container out of the freezer that I thought was sloppy jo but we ended up having chili for dinner. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your yellow blossoms. Ours are not open yet. I did have a pretty crocus blossom though.
