Son John $ got up early to be ready for the plumber. When he turned on the shower, the connection to that hose burst! I never asked if he stood under the pipe coming out of the wall to get wet. The plumber called to say he was eleven minutes away, and we were ready to greet him. He remembered he had replaced the filter system the last time he came, and he commented on how very helpful David had been. John’s suspicion was correct. It was back pressure that blew up the line to the toilet, as well as the connection to the shower hose. The plumber was very impressed that John asked to video his comments on the filter when they went under the house. John assured him that his face would not be splashed all over the internet, something that had happened to John before. We now know to turn on the faucet near the entrance to the crawl space, and then to turn on every faucet in the house after changing the filter. John is going to put a note about it on the filter.
I heard John telling the story of the original explosion, and it was funny. He said he was facing the shower as he turned it on and is sure he had a funny expression on his face. “Why have I turned water on in front of me, but my back is getting wet?”
The plumber finished the repair in minutes, and we were free for the rest of the day. John fixed our breakfast, frying thin slices of livermush and putting them on the ramp-flavored bread he’d bought the day before. He melted cheese on top, and we had a feast.
We drove to Big Creek, a favorite place to look at the water and hike. There is now a parking fee, so we drove back and admired the creek from a bridge.

It must have been a relief to see everything get corrected. The lunch looks delicious.

The refrigerator leaked last night. My son had a quick fix, but I will probably have to replace it.

The refrigerator sprang a leak last night. $ shut off its water supply, so I’ll have time to think about repair or replacement.

Are you kidding me? John must think “why did everything decide do break while I’m here?” but I’m glad he is!!

John is on his way to the airport right now. Maybe he is glad he is leaving before another crisis occurs.

I just really love this post, Anne. Isn’t it wonderful to have sons and daughters who love you so much? I love seeing your trip with son John $. Tonight R wanted pizza and I was exhausted from mowing with the push mower. I called son J and asked if he would go pick up pizza for his dad and he said yes of course. We all have our share of trials and tribulations, but we also have our share of blessings and joy. Thank you for sharing your blessings and joy with the rest of us.

Thankfully John$ was there when all this happened. I remember the pictures of him as a little boy when you lived in England. He still has that same cute grin. Enjoy your time together. (with no more explosions!)

John stopped a leak in the refrigerator temporarily last night. I’ll see if it is repairable. He flies home today.

Oh dear. It always seems like everything falls apart at the same time.

We’ve replaced all the appliances except the stove and refrigerator. They could be 18 years old, depending on when the previous owners installed them.

I read your comment about the refrigerator. You should be done. My mom said things happen in threes. Sure glad the explosions didn’t happen when you were alone.

I hope the refrigerator counts as number three.

This looks like a perfect day/view/meal, although the day didn’t start off on a good note. These are great photos of the two of you Anne. I’m sure John $ said “I’m gone before any more issues come to light in this house!
