Daughter Kate drove over 13 hours to get here, and the following day we took it easy, eating barbecue at Butts on the Creek. She can’t get Southern barbecue in New Jersey. I grew up with it in Tennessee and am always eager to have more. We had a lovely view of Jonathan Creek.
Kacey loved all the attention Kate gave her. It’s still a marvel to me that Kate can touch a dog, since she was terrified of dogs when she was young. She has taken the dog outside quite often while I have been busy.
Our main project for this visit was to burn the garden waste to shrink the burn pile. Kate was watching it smolder, and we ate lunch under the big oak tree while attending it. She did all the hard work, setting the fire and pulling leaves and limbs to the center. We moved Kacey’s stake so that she could be with us all day.
Kate found a small inchworm crawling on my leg, and we couldn’t resist taking a video of it.

Looks like everyone is happy including Kacey!

Loving the updates – so happy she gets to visit ☺️
On one hand I wish I could be with you both, but on the other hand I know how precious “alone time” is with Mom. So I’m content that we got to have a girls” chat yesterday 🥰
Keep the home fires burning, ladies 😁

Anne, lovely photos of your time with Kate and Kacey seems relaxed and happy too! You both seem to be doing well on the jigsaw puzzle and maybe won’t be much left for Lise! I am impressed with her driving such a long way – yikes! We are off to my son for a few days to help decorate his new first house, looking forward to it loads and car packed – luckily only a three hour drive!

That’s a long drive. I’d be exhausted and in need of BBQ. The inch worm is adorable.

When my mom and I went to my grandmother’s house, it was four hours, 240 miles, door to door, from Lincoln Park to Toronto. We always left at 6:00 a.m. and it was still heavy traffic. I was the only one driving and I’d be exhausted. That’s MY version of a long drive and there were three expressway changes in about 20 minutes once we reached Toronto … Kate leaves me in the dirt. 🙂 BBQ sounds like a nice reward for such a long drive. You two are making good progress on the puzzle – it looks to me that Kate not only likes Kacey “in person” but in the puzzle, as the part with her petting Kacey while wearing a pretty pink sweater is all done. I am glad you are enjoying the puzzle and your precious time together too.

I’ve lost the beginning of my comment twice.
Kate and I loved working the puzzle. Lise is looking forward to it. You picked perfect photos of those who are dearest to me. I could never have narrowed it down that way. I am delighted with it and know that my children will divide and keep all the puzzles you’ve designed for us. What a lasting legacy!! From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

WordPress is causing me a lot of grief lately too – good thing I have more time to deal with it now.
You are very welcome Anne. I am glad you are enjoying the puzzles and I know there are already many good photos from 2024 that will end up in the next puzzle!

I hope you do – you’ll see it in the next version then. 🙂 I’m glad you liked my choices … I know when you got it, you sent Logan to a drawer to get it for you and he was excited to see his picture on it. You were proud of him when he caught that fish!

I would head right to barbecue too. What they call barbecue in Connecticut is nothing close to the real thing. I am glad another of your kids is there for a good visit.
