And what a morning it was! When I went out to walk, Shawn called from her porch that she’d get Logan, knowing we like to walk together when possible. We spotted a rabbit on the street, and I told him that daughter Kate always comments on them. We decided we’d count them. The numbers were going up, when suddenly we saw no more. Logan almost ran over a skunk on his scooter the other day. It ran into a hole, which he pointed out to me. I asked Alexa if skunks eat rabbits, and indeed they do! Maybe that was why we saw no more until we came back to our street. Kate and I noticed a strong skunk odor the other day, so I know they have been around my house, as well. Perhaps the skunk was on the other street today, because Logan’s count went up to 9 by the time we got home. He also counted the one chipmunk.
Shawn and Bob were driving up our street on their way to a doctor’s appointment, and they asked if Logan could stay with me. Yes! Yes! and Yes! He could have stayed home alone, but they know I’m always eager to spend time with him. As they drove out of sight, I told him I had something to celebrate birthday month for him. His 14th birthday is next week. I’ve written before that blogger Linda picks out family photos from my blog during the year and has them made into a jigsaw puzzle. When it came months ago, Logan saw it and saw that he was included for the first time. Kate and I worked it, then we took Logan out of it, leaving the corner edge. I hoped he would want to put himself together, and he began immediately.
As he did that, I finished clearing some pushy plants from the gravel walkway in the garden. It didn’t take him long, because he finished in JIG time! I heard a loud rattle and knew he was playing Boggle. After a few minutes he came out and offered to help me! God bless him! I was finishing up, and we began to Boggle together.
In the puzzle photo, Logan is holding up a big fish he caught. His dad was proud of him and immediately took that picture in the boat.

Although I fortified myself with a large cup of coffee, it didn’t help. We tied twice, I think, and I won one game. He won the rest, often by a large margin. This is a warning to daughter Lise to sharpen her wits, because Logan is a master player now. Lise will be here next month, so watch for the brain sparks to fly!
We switched from Boggle to Pressed for Words on the phone. We worked together to win each game. He is very quick at typing, so he put the words in as I used the time searching for more. He still found as many words as I did. His parents came home before I was worded out.
All this was much more fun than looking for a new camera. Mine broke while Kate and I were on the Blue Ridge Parkway last week. It has been lying face up on the kitchen counter, dead as can be. I should give it a good burial, because it survived in my pocket for five years. Not many cameras have such a hard life. The phone did its best to fill in the gap.

What fun you have with Logan. He’s such a smart young man as well.

Oh! What a morning! I would love to play Logan online at Words With Friends or whatever he likes to play online. I’m glad he played and worked with you! He is a fine young lad and a real friend. ☺️

Hmmm..the phone camera does lighten the load of Carrington around too many things..but is it as good?? Depends….Logan is a wiz at a lot of things.

I’m quicker with a camera, and it’s easier to keep the photo files smaller.

I’m glad Logan was feeling the warmth of being part of your family, by getting to work ON the puzzle and having the honor of being IN the puzzle as well. Good luck finding a digital compact camera. I read recently that camera manufacturers consider them obsolete since most people use their phones for taking photos now. My Canon PowerShot ELPH 340HS digital compact is 9 years old and still going strong but I think the newer models are fancier and higher priced. I like it as it’s easy to use and 12X zoom gives me the option of getting close-ups. Plus, I don’t come home with missed or blurred shots like I do with the DSLR. I hope they are still available down the road … they remind me of the pocket camera I used for many years until the door got wobbly and let light in.

I was surprised at how low the prices seemed to me. I think I was looking at kid’s cameras. I must begin my search in earnest, because I want to get used to a new one before Lise comes.

I hope you can find one before Lise comes. I was looking only because I heard about digital compacts being phased out in favor of small cameras designed for making videos and thought I’d want a back-up for this one, but not only were they very expensive, they were not as small as yours/mine. That’s the beauty of slipping them in a pocket like you said. We have similar cameras. You had it on a table in one of your photos that someone else took.

I found a Kodak that I liked, then saw it has a “raw” format. I want JPEG.

Yes, I would only like JPEG too. The newer cameras have lots of extra stuff on them. Mine is simple and 12X zoom and I felt a bit frivolous buying it since I had a perfectly fine Canon digital camera with 4X zoom, but I wanted more zoom like Marge had. Back when she was feeling good, we went to Elizabeth Park and stopped at the same places, took the same photos, then got home and e-mailed them to each other … my shots had geese and ducks across the pond as tiny blobs, so I got this camera as I had zoom envy.

Zoom envy has served you well, since you get excellent shots with your camera.

Thank you – this camera is a workhorse. I have never had any issues with a Canon camera, even the 35mm bought in 1981. I hope you can find a comparable camera to what you had.

I had a Canon. It was good, but the software gave me fits. I eventually found two ways to do almost everything. I think they changed the program from time to time, and that messed things up.

My first Canon digital compact (silver 4X zoom) had that software. It took forever to load it and I thought it was confusing. Then I went to Best Buy to get a 12X zoom – salesman showed it to me, said his wife had one, loved it. Took it home – next day I opened the box … no software and USB transfer cord. So, I figured it was missing … but I didn’t open up the manual or I would have known it did not use that software. Took it back – same salesman who told me to get the SIM card reader, so I did. So much easier!

A SIM card reader was never recommended for mine. I don’t know how that works.

Hi Anne – I didn’t know either, so the salesman explained it to me and I bought one – so much easier! A SIM card reader plugs into your computer into a USB hub, just like a flash drive. You remove the photo card from your camera, insert it into the slot in the SIM card reader and then open up the camera’s photo file and it’s on the computer. The SIM card reader I bought at that time was around $7.00 … the SIM card readers now have two slots, one for a regular-sized photo card and one for a micro-sized photo card. I’ll send you an Amazon link in a separate comment – you don’t need a large one, just flash-drive sized. HOWEVER, I am still using a Windows 7 laptop, so ensure that it is compatible with Windows 10 if that is what you are using. I prefer my old laptop to Windows 10. I looked at this Amazon SIM card reader and it says it works with Windows – you should be fine. See other comment (if WordPress permits me to do a second comment – they often don’t).

You’re welcome … I wish the salesman had explained it to me when I bought the camera. But then … I could have read the manual too and didn’t. I just thought it was missing.

Here you go – cheaper than the one I bought in 2015 and you could probably get it at a Walmarts, Walgreens, CVS:

I’ll see how things look when the camera is delivered in July. I finally ordered the Kodak this morning. Thank you for this info.

You’re welcome – it is way easier and so much faster than the software. When using the software, all the prior pics as well as the current pics flooded the screen … this way it compartmentalizes it.
