If husband John were alive, he would be laughing. He was well aware of my penchant for doing things early. He would dig up the old college tales and tell you that I finished term papers the week after they were assigned. According to him, other students despised me for not struggling at the last minute.
Let that old myth live on, but I’ve bested myself this time. I ordered a new camera to replace the one that died while daughter Kate was here. The very next day I downloaded the manual for it and began to read it, although it won’t get here for another week. Laugh if you must, but I want to be ready to use it by the time daughter Lise and her friend Toke (TOE-kay) arrive.
If there are any of you who are always on time for meetings and usually prepare for deadlines early, please raise your hand. There has got to be a group like me around the world. If a true confession is not your style, just say you are raising awareness for a friend. EARLY BIRDS UNITE!!
I’m an early bird, too. My husband is not. He made fun of me, too — especially when assignments changed or were even cancelled (after I had done them). I still can’t help myself, though.

No wonder John liked Chris so much! They had a lot in common.

I’d say I belong to that “early” group but we’d both know it is no way near the truth… although if you give me a deadline I might sign up at the last second 😆

You have enough brains to forego normal routines.

I do still like to be early to arrive at meetings or appointments, but I can hold off to the end on starting something with a deadline! I am more likely to be ahead when it is something I am passionate about–like a new camera!

I’m glad you are with me on cameras.

Guilty as charged! Early for everything! I recently had a deadline and got my assignment in two almost months early!

I don’t like to wait until the last minute and I don’t like to be late. I like to knock things out. Too many times something happens at the last minute out of your control (like getting sick or a traffic jam on the way somewhere) and you are out of luck.

That doesn’t bother some people. They seem to roll with it.

Hmmm. Maybe maybe not..depends on what is going on. Good for you. Learning a new camera or phone can be a challenge

I’ve skipped the instructions I won’t use, like sending photos to a printer.

Good for you! I put the PRO in Procrastination. A looming deadline is a great motivator. I don’t do well with a change of plans… and it has gotten worse in retirement. Fortunately, my husband is the opposite, or we’d never get anything done.
I am a stickler for promptness, though, and like to be on time – or early – for gatherings, appointments, events, etc.

I love that — putting the PRO in procrastination. I’ve got to tell that to daughter Lise.

I am a prepare-ahead-of-time person! If I’m not early, I feel late!⏰
You are not alone early bird!🐦
We really do get more worms😄 (opportunities)!

I’m another one. I pack for a trip 2 weeks before I leave. I get too panicky if I leave things to the last minute. Xo

I’ve heard of others who pack early. I think about what I need to take and sometimes make a list, but I always needed my clothes for daily living.

Me, me, me!! I also finished assignments early in school. Holding leadership positions in several clubs, the only way to effectively get things done is to do them earlier than needed. I will write reminder emails and meeting agendas, then schedule them to send at the proper time so I won’t have to remember to do it at a particular time. I keep different bags for different meetings, and put things in them as I go along, so I never get to a meeting without what I need. Yes, I too am an early bird and proud of it!!

You need to be super organized to get everything done well. I admire you.

In my youth I was much more organized, but maybe not THAT organized. You’ll be able to hit the ground running once the new camera arrives.

There are a lot of things that need to be set on the new camera. I’m glad I steered away from WiFi this time. That was more trouble than it was worth

I never used the WiFi. They said the “gateway” would make transferring pictures so much faster, but I think you had to have the laptop turned on to use it. So after the salesman explained the SIM card reader, I thought it was much easier this way.

I get to places early in case there are any traffic snarls on the way. I always started my classes on time and trained my students to get there at the beginning of class. They weren’t used to that, but accommodated me.

I’m glad you trained your students.

I was famous among faculty who always asked how I did it. Apparently it was “that face” as my students called it that did the trick.
