Daughter Lise and her friend Toke (TOE kay) seemed to bounce back quickly after their long flight from Denmark. The next morning we walked at my usual time, and neighbor Logan caught up to us. He took a turn holding dog Kacey, who usually does not walk with us.
Logan was picked up by his parents when it was time for him to go to day camp. I took the official photo at the stop sign when Logan had already left us.
Lise lifted the dog up in the air when a car went by to keep her from lunging. That worked really well, although it was a workout for Lise.
The big event of the day was the removal of an evergreen tree that was attacking the Wicked Wisteria. Neighbor Joyce had approved, since it was on our shared property line. Lise, Toke, Kayce, and I watched from the back porch.
Below is a slide show that presents the big evergreen tree trying to swallow the pergola, half the tree removed, the dog exploring the new empty space, and the bare stump.
The second full day we drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway and ate barbecue on the way home. I wanted Toke to be sure to sample one of the special foods of the South, and he liked it. Mission accomplished!

Great pictures. Does Toke speak English or are you learning his language? This will be a good workout for Kacey.

Toke’s first language is Danish. His English is superb. He knows at least one other language, but I can’t remember which one.

You have visitors again – I remember you said Lise would be visiting in July and you have perfected working with the new camera just on time!

I took the jigsaw puzzle apart so Lise and Toke could work it. We hope to start on it soon.
I wish the camera had been conquered, but I’m still struggling with it.

I thought you were doing well on the camera, especially this post. Your old camera, like mine, were simpler, with not as many features on them. I hope Lise, Toke and you as well enjoy the puzzle.

How wonderful to have more visitors and all the way from Denmark! Kacey must be delighted to be able to go for walks with all of you. Enjoy your time together.

Lacey failed today. She met a tiny neighbor dog and went wild. Lise took her home, and we had a peaceful walk.

Oh dear. That does happen. My little dog goes wild if she sees a cat or a Border Collie. Go figure.

You and that wicked wisteria- You always make me laugh! It may surprise you that some days I do wonder about your wisteria battles! Sweet post, as always-and I have at last learned howto comment on WP! x Michele

Thanks for your hard won ability to comment.
That Wicked Wisteria reached and grabbed for me yesterday. A long tendril raked across my neck, but I got away.

Toke looks like a sweet guy, so glad they are both visiting with you now! Who cut the tree down? I’m glad it went smoothly. Looks like Lise is recovering well. Tell her hi for me!

Hi back from Lise.
A local tree removal man set his two young men on the tree. One man removed all the lower branches, then he climbed up to take the rest. On the way down he cut the various trunks and pushed them to fall in my garden. Very few plants were disturbed. It was amazing to watch.

I hope he was reasonable.

I hope she doesn’t miss him too bad when he’s gone, but then again, she seems fine to be on her own. She’s pretty independent.

Anne, isn’t it dramatic when a big tree is cut down!? Often the birds get very confused for a while as well. Your photos capture it perfectly and must say it adds a lot of light to the garden. Aww … your Lise and Toke seem wonderfully close and a lovely time for you all. Wishing you a great weekend. Annika

The men also trimmed some very large shrubs that had gotten away from me. I’m enjoying all of it.
I don’t know what we will be doing this weekend, but Lise keeps us busy. Hope your weekend is special, too.
