Burning fresh leaves was very easy, since they hadn’t had a chance to get wet. The fire was going so well that I added four baskets of garden debris. Afterward, the yard was a peaceful scene.
While tending the fire, I walked near some trees and bushes at the boundary. This is the first time I’ve taken a photo of my dragon holly tree. John and I planted three holly trees to replace one very tall tree that obscured the mountain scene. One tree is fine, one is being taken over by a thorn bush, and this one was nibbled into its dragon shape by two horses and a donkey from the neighbor’s pasture.

That’good! Did thay charge you?

The leaves didn’t charge me . They just laid there burning. I didn’t catch the yard men when they were getting rid of leaves the easy way. It happened very quickly, and they were gone.

Is the whole leaf pile gone???

I burned only new leaves. The area is pretty flat, though there are old compacted leaves there.

Two horses and a donkey! I love it. We’re not permitted to burn leaves here, but when I was a kid it was great.

We have burn bans when it’s dry. I check on line before lighting a fire.

Our horse neighbor likes the greens on our side of the fence also. The problem is it’s grasses and weeds he is eating, and he leans over the fence to reach them and has bent the top of our fence down. I like the dragon shape.

I thought holly was poisonous to horses but maybe not all of them.

Holly hasn’t killed these animals yet. I was appalled that they sculpted the tree, not thinking it was that near the fence.

Deer are pretty good sculptors too.

I’ve seen deer on the property only once in ten years. They are in this area, but I don’t seem to have much to attract them.

I rather like the dragon shaped tree.

I am surprised the tree didn’t die, but maybe dragon trees have staying power.

If a burn ban was imposed, I wouldn’t burn anything, either.

That dragon tree is awesome! Clever horses and donkey. Perhaps it comes to life after dark and flies around the mountains. The stories are forming in my mind.

I admire your imagination. I didn’t think of the dragon’s flying!

That’s a huge “dragon” and I’m wondering if one day it will once again obliterate your mountain view if it continues growing.

It was not supposed to get much bigger. If it does, I have a good tree man who will take it down.

The things you want to “grow like a weed” don’t and the others … well, I have had that problem as well.
