Those were neighbor Joyce’s plans, to have lunch on the porch. I thought it was much colder than that, but I did have half my breakfast on the screened porch. I did not tarry, being driven inside by the wind. Hot soup might be a good choice for lunch. Alternate plan – stay inside to eat.
It’s amusing how one little thing can shake up your world. I’ve worn my new glasses for two weeks, and my eyes have not adjusted to them. The optician checked and said the lenses were the correct prescription. She suggested I go back to the eye doctor to make sure the numbers were correct. I have a niggling suspicion that one eye has degenerated (AMD – Adult Macular Degeneration).
Meanwhile, I moved closer to the computer screen. The reading part of the glasses forced me to throw my head back to an awkward angle. Awkward became painful. To gain height, I brought out the balance ball to sit on. Sneakers did not grip the floor, so I added a landing strip for my feet. So far I haven’t fallen off. If I do roll off, I’ll blame the new glasses. I refuse to admit I’m unbalanced.

I love how you keep your sense of humor Anne. I smiled at your photo (your smile always makes me smile) and I hear you about those glasses! When I got my last ones, I got 3 pair, one with progressive for normal daily wear and driving, one for the computer, and one to be able to read a book again without getting blurred vision. I could not tolerate having to raise my head to see the computer screen. Three generations prior to me on my mother’s side have had AMD, so it is possible for me some day, too. If so, I hope I manage as gracefully as you do. I tried one of those balls once, but it was just not comfortable because every time I moved, so did that ball!

I am thinking of getting computer glasses, but only after my eyes are used to bifocals.

That makes sense!

My first reply got away from me. I wanted to comment on the exercise ball. I love that it moves, because my bum no longer goes to sleep when I sit too long. It’s the next best thing to getting up and walking around the room.

I have never fallen off that big ball. You should have seen me when I tried a very small one. It tossed me right on the floor. I was laughing, but my husband was in the next room and could have rescued me if I had hurt myself.

Anne – you need to consider getting a pair of computer glasses. They set the prescription to be the right distance from the computer screen. I love my computer glasses. I was having to tilt my head to see my computer screen and I was getting bad neck and back pain. I complained to my eye doctor and they fixed me up with computer glasses. My computer glasses are also progressive, so I can read paperwork at my desk.

After hearing you and several other people talk about computer glasses, I think I will get some eventually.

It might be good to mention to mention to your eye doctor when you see them again.

I am not ready to eat outside yet. We are awaiting a snowstorm tonight! Maybe in 2 or 3 months! I agree that computer glasses may help a lot. I got progressives for normal wear but bifocals for reading. The constant adjusting to read gave me eye fatigue. The bigger reading area helped a lot and I have the top part for distance.

That sounds good. I think I will get computer glasses eventually.

I don’t recommend your eating outside yet. Wish I could watch your snow falling.

It’s lovely but only for the first few times. Now I’m ready for spring.

You’re still smiling though! I am guessing lunch never happened? Or did you eat inside after all?
Sorry about your glasses. My friend Amanda told me its been a month for hers and she still isn’t used to them!

Lunch happened around 3:00. Was wearing a warm jacket and eating hot soup. It worked.

I wonder how long Amanda will wait before she does something about it. Maybe I need to keep wearing mine another week or so before seeking help.

Oh do be careful Anne. That set up looks tricky but it will at least help to strengthen your core

Thank you for the warning. I think it is safe, since I used to sit on that ball all the time. If my feet fly out from under me, the ball will go one way and the computer the other. I will probably land among all the plants that I brought in from outside last fall. I hope I will have my camera with me to record the devastation, presuming I will not have been hurt.

Having fallen over twice in the last six weeks, me knowing how to fall on a way that minimises injury is needed. Sou ds like you know this already!

I don’t really know how to fall. I don’t want to learn the hard way, either!

Oh, the ways we adjust to try to see! I’m fortunate that I don’t need glasses to drive, but I have two different prescriptions for near vision–one set of glasses for reading, and another for working on my computer. I see that others have mentioned that solution, too. Good luck!

Thank you. I’m hearing of more and more people having computer glasses. I can’t wait to join the “in” crowd.

You are brave! If I sat on that ball, my butt would absolutely be on the floor multiple times. I’m impressed.
I stole a trick from a blogger friend in Australia. I would plug in an enclosed oil heater under the patio table on my deck and then throw a heavy blanket over the table to reach the floor. My sister and I would sit with our legs under the table (of course) and the blanket tucked around our laps and be crazy cozy out there with our coats, scarves, and gloves. It was great for light snowfalls – especially in the evening when things were quiet.
I think your glasses look really nice on you. I hope you get all eye things straightened out. I’ve never heard of computer glasses before. You learn something new every day! 🙂

I love your idea of sitting outside with a heater to watch the snow falling.
Computer glasses are simply lenses that are set for optimum vision for the computer screen. I used to have trifocals, and the middle part was for playing the organ and working on the computer. I have heard of more and more people who have glasses just set for the computer. I think that’s the way to go for me.

You are very coordinated Anne! My butt would be on the floor as soon as I plunked down and I am imagining lowering myself down to sit on the ball – hmm. I’d probably tip the computer table. It will be a long time for outdoor dining here – we have had more freezing rain today, plus another load of snow, albeit just an inch or two, but on top of freezing rain from the other day. It’s a week on Sunday since I’ve been to the Park.

I just wrote the same thing to Ruth because our second bout of freezing rain in three days has made a slick mess of the roads – the Park will be worse. I don’t want to risk falling, so for now, I am being careful.

There is no way I would wear bifocals or trifocals which is what Tim had for a few years, also I wouldn’t be able to balance on that ball, I would just end up on the floor

Sitting on the balance ball is very easy for me. I like the fact that I can keep moving without standing up and walking around. This ball is quite large and easy for me to manage. Small ones can be dangerous!

Great job making fun of what many would grumble about! I still can’t adjust to progressives so I have 3 different pair… Hope your next glasses are better!🤓

Thank you. I’m sure I would not be able to adjust to progressives. Bifocals and trifocals were fine with me, but I suspect one of my eyes is acting up.
