Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day from my warm heart to yours.

I’m beginning to understand why my dear neighbors are concerned about me. From time to time they have urged me not to walk when it is cold. I say the same thing each time, that I’m warm and much prefer being cold to boiling under the summer sun. I almost had to eat those words today. Not quite, but almost.

I looked at two different weather forecasts last night, both of which said it was going to get cold during the night. Before going to bed, I did the tap dance – going around the house to turn on the cold water taps to keep the pipes from freezing. When I woke, I saw that the temperature was not in the teens. I didn’t think it was dangerously cold. I wore a top, sweat shirt, jeans, and windbreaker, not my warm coat. Not knowing I should have been cold, I walked as carefree as usual. I was shocked to look at the thermometer when I came back in. It was 24, not 34. Freezing is 32. I was only one digit off on the right side.

Doing a quick mental check, I found my feet toasty warm. Fingers, cheeks, and ears were only slightly cool. No harm done! My heart was as warm as always.

Going forward, I’m going to use the end of the driveway as my testing point. Last week I turned around there and hung my hat on the doorknob and should have left my windbreaker, as well. Today I wasn’t tempted to go back for another layer of clothing, and I was right. Again, Happy Valentine’s Day from my warm heart to yours.

    1. Changeable, huh? The other day I had an argument with myself on whether to walk or not. I won and did not go out. Vindication was mine when I saw a rain falling before I would have gotten back home.

  1. Now Anne, do dress up warmly and be snug.

The Eskimos do it, the polar bear does……..I do 😊

no point waiting for fingers and toes to freeze. Enjoy your walks. I was for one in the

    cold today. Well dressed. πŸ€—

    1. I like cold because it is the absence of heat. Like you, I prefer autumn and spring. I would vote for equality of seasons. I’ve lived in three areas of the US, and spring lasts four mornings and four afternoons. Much too short!

    1. I did have a lovely Valentine’s Day, thank you. Neighbors Shawn and Dawn came over to visit for a while this afternoon. That is always most satisfying for me. I hope your Valentine’s Day was special, too.

  2. I sometimes layer up too much and find myself very warm before I get home … I bought some sherpa-lined sweatpants at Meijer (grocery store) and they are wonderfully warm and I hate to get out of them when I come home. When getting ready to go outside, I try to wait until after the furnace does its run cycle, so I don’t get too warm as I pile on the clothes.

      1. I may have to do that Anne. I don’t know where this draft is coming from – it is only when I sit at the table and fine if I am moving around the kitchen. They are very warm – you would love them. My last two years of college I took the bus to Wayne State. Two buses, one suburban to Detroit, then a Detroit bus to school (about three or four miles). In Winter, I’d have to wait on a bus, so I wore thermal underwear tops and bottoms – I can remember them, little pink flowers on them. I wore them for years afterward for shoveling snow, until I outgrew them.

        1. Yes, I would love your sweatpants. The weather is going to be really cold here in a day or so. I will go back to wearing thermal underwear, even in the house. Daughter Kate is always cold, so she bought several sets of cuddle duds and wears them all day everyday.

          1. I wish I’d bought more of those sweatpants – they were a brand I’d not heard of but they are toasty. I have been wearing legwarmers in the house. My mom had several pair and so I have been doing that. It’s not bad if I’m up and moving around, but I am at the computer a lot. I moved the old computer to the other room where it is warmer and away from this stupid dog whining and yelping next door, but I am in a little corner and it’s a bit cramped. I have to work on that corner for next Winter.

  3. Be safe this week in the cold weather while walking. 24 sounds too cold for me to try to do yard work!

I bought a pair of fleece leggings that I wear underneath my jeans to stay warm while working outside. My legs would get so cold!
