Bedside Drawer

I told myself umpteen times to clean out the drawer in the bedside table. The table is quite old, having come down through my father’s family. Someone, not a professional furniture maker, put it together. The drawer never did fit right and is hard to open and close. Nothing used on a daily basis would ever be in there.

I knew I would find a small flashlight without a battery, but I was surprised there were four of them. Packets of tissues were there, the kind you’d put in a pocket or a handbag. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d make you sneeze. A total surprise was a plastic kazoo. I hummed a tune in it and threw it away.

The bulk of the space was taken by twisted charging cords, like a mess of black snakes. Ugh! Hidden among them was a flip phone, my first mobile telephone, not used for ten years. I’ve put those things in a bag and will add other old phones and electronic gear. I plan to find cords to match, charge the items, and wipe them clean. I don’t think anyone would want them, but it’s not good to have personal information stored on old devices.

If you have a bedside table with a drawer, do you know what is in it? You could be surprised!

  1. That sounds like fun! Can almost hear the kazoo.

Sadly I’m an overachiever in organizing drawers, so there’s no mystery in my bedside table. Apparently I’m missing out 😉

  2. I have two night tables beside the bed with three drawers each. I use one for underwear and panty liners, the other one have cellphone chargers I have accumulated over the years and a small transistor radio which I used in the garden before.😍

  3. Sounds like a kitchen junk drawer with lots of interesting things in it. I just have a table next to my bedside, but it has a small tablecloth over it, so I can store things under it and the tablecloth covers it up so no one is any the wiser. 🙂

  4. The image of all the cords being snakes stuck me as very powerful. In my mind’s eye, I could see the cords moving like snakes in the drawer and calming down when you took them out.

        1. My day started off in a lovely way – – looking at the deck and the lawn being covered with snow. It was snowing when I walked, but it has stopped and begun to melt now. Maybe I will get a little bit more later.

Thank you so much. Your Day are going. When you walked that time Snow fall. You tell me update. Iam so happy.

  7. Wow!  The things we all have. I love when you find things you didn’t remember you had and then find it hard to get rid of. We are all with you!  It is definitely a first world problem! Enjoy your day ahead now. Sent from my iPhone

  9. Finding a kazoo is always fun! It always amazes me how many paperclips I find in my long-forgotten drawers. And disintegrated rubber bands.

  10. It’s the charging cords that drive me crazy as I never remember what they are for. And I dare not throw them away, because for sure I’ll need them. I have a desk drawer like that. My beside drawers hold my jewellery and my underwear. So no surprises there.

  11. I love the visual of you sitting on your bed, going through the drawer, finding the kazoo and humming a tune. Poor little kazoo finally had someone remember him and play. … And then you shrugged your shoulders and into the trash he went. Oh well. 🙂 LOL!

Past experience has shown me that any bedside drawer will turn into a junk drawer ala that one drawer in the kitchen. When I moved to my apartment, I brought a simple table with no drawers for next to my bed. And I still have my flip phone, too!
