My face could have been red BEFORE the dermatologist exposed me to blue light. I left the house right on time for the appointment, and the car wouldn’t start!! If I were normal, my blood pressure would have shot up, making my face red. Neighbor Shawn saved the day by driving me there and picking me up. Words could not express how grateful I was.
My face procedure was a neighborhood event. Joyce was involved because she loaned me a wide-brimmed hat that was required. On the way home, Shawn said she’d take a photo of me with the hat, which she did.

Post procedure, Day 1. The next morning I put on sunscreen before going out to walk. I was told to protect my face carefully for the next three weeks. Who knew it would blow up, literally on my face? All was well until I turned at the stop sign to go home. The sun hit me head on, and my face began to burn. I was on fire! I wondered if it was the salt water from a leaky eye running down my face. The water ran, not the eye. Shawn’s assessment was that the sunscreen was old. Daughter Lise will tell me, “That’s what you get for keeping out-if-date items.” In my defense, I looked for an expiration date and couldn’t find one. I found two other tubes with dates and promptly threw them in the wastebasket.

Post procedure, Day 2. Because my car wouldn’t start, I couldn’t drive to buy new sunscreen. I went out to walk half an hour earlier than usual and wrapped shade around my face. That was unnecessary, because the sun didn’t shine!! Sunrise was officially at 6:54, and I was home at 8:22. Cloud cover hid the sun entirely. I wouldn’t mind just hibernating, but I will have to go out eventually.

You don’t really need the sunshine, a s.ile like yours gives light and warmth. Huge Hugs

The burning from the Sun was the only thing that was painful. I don’t look at myself in the mirror very much, so if I look bad, I am not aware of it.

Oh my! Whatever you had done made you very sensitive to the sun. It will ease down soon (hopefully!) and all will be well.

Yeah it may have been the out of date sunscreen on your sensitive face, we have used out of date sunscreen without any problem and it did work as there was no sunburn.

Sunburn would have been preferable, I think.

I have had allergic reactions to sunscreen so don’t use them. I also have allergic reactions to some hair care products and my face has broken out when I have hugged some people because my face touched their hair. I haven’t identified the type of products I just don’t use any and try to be careful when hugging people.
Is it painful or itchy?

My face was painful only when it reacted to the old sunscreen.
That’s awful that hugs can damage you!!

You look great in that hat! I’m sorry about your red spots but glad they don’t hurt. I thought of you when I dragged myself out to walk today. My first walk this year. I made it a full mile. 🙂

Thank you. You’ve been quite inspiring to me. I want to keep up with walking and hope to get the bike out on Sunday.

Now that is exciting! Biking is excellent. Do you live in a fairly flat area? I would never ride a bike here in the mountains. Well, I haven’t ridden a bike in 60 years and I’m not about to restart now.

I can ride in the alleys and in the park here in town. The park has a one-mile track. There is a hill behind my house. Sometimes I have to walk my bike up, but I can usually make it. Once I get up there, there are more flat roads and a nice ride around the high school. The ride around the school is also a mile. I have a 7-mile route mapped out. It will take me time to get back up to that though. 🙂

I have never used sunscreen as my face was always oily growing up and it still is to some extent as I’ve gotten older. I have gotten used to wearing UV protection sunhats to keep away the strong rays. I have very sensitive skin and when I worked on site, I developed an allergy to formaldehyde resin, a chemical found in nail polish and also in toner. So, whenever I printed off document(s), or handled paper from an incoming fax, I had a pair of cotton gloves I slipped on if I needed the documents or fax immediately – otherwise I let them sit there and cool off.

Wow! That is interesting!
I have avoided the sun all my life after a rather severe sunburn. I would not have worn sunscreen if the doctor had not told me I really needed to for 3 weeks.

If you continue the need to wear sunscreen, consider a sunhat. I bought mine and it has a wide brim and covers my whole head. I got a burn walking and taking photos by the shoreline at Lake Erie Metropark, so I bought the hat and also pants and top that have UV protection as well. (Just for my longer treks – at the Park every day, I am there fairly early, not after 11:00 a.m., the height of the sun’s rays).

I don’t go out in the sun very often. I will wear the sunscreen for the recommended 3 weeks when I walk. It probably would be good to keep it up.

Yes, it would be good to keep using it, but if you can get a sunhat with a wide brim, you can skip the sunscreen which might get on your phone/camera. That’s why I opted for the hat … worry about grease on the lens.

I noticed the other day that the Sun was shining directly on my nose, even though I was wearing a baseball cap. I think I have to stick to the sunscreen for now.

Interesting. Sunscreen works best for you then for now. A woman at the Park uses an umbrella every day and another one uses a large fan to shield her face. Someone told me that Latinas are prone to leathery skin if exposed to too much sun and some younger women don’t want that, so they protect their skin. I didn’t know that but remarked to another walker long ago that they might have had skin cancer. I knew that from Marge who had multiple bouts of it as a result of gardening in her backyard that had no trees. She was advised to wear a hat or shield her face after that – she did not.
My hat brim is pretty wide. But sometimes I have to flip the brim back to take photos as it gets in the way. But I’ve managed to avoid a burn this year. I was burned several times, not severely, on my forearms and face.

I’m glad the hat works for you. I had a hat, intending to use it for gardening in the sun, but it kept flopping in the way. I gave it away.

I use sunscreen as my base-necessary here in Fla-but its very gentle and made for your face. Its Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch with 70spf. Even my base is from Neutrogena and also contains sunscreen.
It will seem moist when you first apply it, but eventually, it dries and protects from sun very well. The only things getting darker on me seem to be my legs, but my face stays the same! Maybe it would be good for you too!

Sweet!! It really is very good. I went to the beach for several hours today and I don’t feel like I got any sun on my face.
The water was slightly warmer but still very cold and therefore therapeutic. Loved it!

That is an excellent report for the sunscreen. I used mine for the first time this morning, and my face seemed the same as when I woke up.
I saw that you went to the beach on Life360.

That may be the one Shawn picked out for me. She was able to look at a rack of products and zeroed in on one. She certainly could think faster than I could.
