Shopping from Memory

I nearly always read the grocery shopping list before leaving home, and it stood me in good stead this week. I know I took the list, but I figured it dropped out of my pocket in the parking lot. Retracing my steps, I did not find any list. Time to wing it!

Two days later I have not missed anything vital, nor have I remembered anything else on the list. In this game of chance, I think I won.

  1. Well I am guilty of that too. Since I shop for pantry items to last all Winter, I usually have a perpetual list of items for the grocery store and can re-use it but I’ve been known to forget that list too.

  2. Well done! They say just the act of writing it down, puts it in your mind. One day just before hubby dropped me off at the grocery store, I asked him if he needed anything. He said, “Yes, I need toothpaste.” We got home later and I unpacked the groceries. He said, “Where is my toothpaste?” I said, “I forgot it, it wasn’t on the list.” He just shook his head.

  3. I agree with ruthsoaper, I forget things even when they are right there in front of me on my list. I think my “memory problems” stem from simply having so much rolling around in my head at any given time and being distracted a lot.

Good for you, getting your shopping done without a list! Especially when you realized you picked up everything you wanted/needed.

  5. I’m also catching up with your previous posts but for some treason I can like them but not leave messages. Anyway, I was really touched by the reunion with your old friends and what it brought along, not the toilet part though😳
