Lise and Magda Arrive

Daughter Lise and friend Magda did not push the first few days they were here, giving themselves time to adjust to this time zone. They live six hours ahead of me. They were eager to walk, though, and had a chance to chat with neighbor Joyce on their first full day.

To help me, they moved totes in the garage where seasonal things are stored.

The first tourist thing we did was go to Winchester Creek Farm. We saw alpacas, llamas, and other less exotic animals. Our guide knew all about the animals, including things about their breed, names, ages, quirks, and stories about them.

Our trip started the next day with a lavish brunch buffet at the Grove Park Inn just north of Asheville. I think most standard breakfast foods were available from eggs Benedict to shrimp and grits, scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage, pancakes, Wagyu beef, banana bread French toast, pastries, and desserts. Being people who love to eat, we three were in hog heaven.

After breakfast, we settled in to drive all the way across the state to the Outer Banks, an area new to all of us.

    1. This was her second visit – she was in NYC a number of years ago. But it was her first time in North Carolina, and my Mom made countless amazing memories for Magda (as only she can do 🥰)

  1. Anne, I really enjoy your daily reflections. Only with Lise’s permission, could you reveal how she wound up living in Denmark.

    Tak, Paul

    1. Lisa changed her nickname to Lise and searched for others on Facebook. Most came from Denmark. When she got her master’s degree, her mentor had been a professor in Denmark and gave her advice about moving there. She still sees the first friends she made. She has lived there 14 years now. I’m grateful that she can work from home, and that enables her to come here two or three times a year.

  2. This sounds like a fun and rewarding week spent with Lisa and Magda. I hope you did not get caught up in any of the ugly weather that was sweeping across the nation. P.S. – did the alpacas behave themselves … sometimes they like to spit on the visitors. 🙂

      1. That’s good since it was ugly indeed. A fellow blogger in Arkansas had 20 tornadoes and 12 inches of rain – I was a Nervous Nellie last week with two tornadoes predicted and we had two inches of rain.
