The day before Maundy Thursday, I was texting with friend Karen in NY. She mentioned that she would miss going to church on Thursday and Friday, because both services were at night. She and I don’t drive at night. I said, “Go to church with me on line!” That’s how we came to be figuratively sitting in the same pew 793 miles apart.
I didn’t expect to see anyone in person, but I dressed as if I were going to church. In honor of the season, I was wearing purple (lavender edged in purple).

Karen and I met, as planned, using cell phones and iPads. We didn’t text while the service was going on. I was shocked to see my pastor leading the service, because he announced on Sunday that he was having a knee replaced the following day. I wondered if he had had a miraculous healing. I didn’t move that well three days after knee surgery, and I’m sure Karen didn’t either. She had both knees replaced on the same day. I counted it a miracle and moved on.
Correction! I misunderstood the day of Pastor’s knee surgery. It will be the Monday after Easter, not the day after Palm Sunday. That makes a whole lot more sense. This is one of the busiest weeks of a pastor’s life, and Pastor Jeff is right where he planned to be, in the thick of it. I am recalling my prayers for him, asking that they be applied a week later. I’ll add new ones, because used prayers aren’t good enough for this dedicated man of God.

This was our view of the congregation.

For many years Karen and I, with our husbands, were often at the same service. After this service ended, I thanked Karen for joining me, because this added a new dimension to worship. She agreed, and we will meet again on Good Friday.
Wow! Your church is a tiny as the one we used to go to (and loved so much) when we lived in Alvarado.
I love tiny churches. You look very pretty in your purple. 🤗☺️

The church does appear tiny. The camera for the live stream was in the choir loft. There are seats on the first floor under that choir loft, so there are many pews that do not show.

Isn’t it amazing how the internet can connect us? It was lovely your friend could join you from so far away!

This is wonderful! A good friend lives a distance from me. I’ve been trying to get her to text, email or do some other techie thing so we could stay in touch. She only does snail mail and I’m a real procrastinator about that. Your church is pretty. Very homey and I love your jacket.

That’s a shame your friend uses only snail mail. Karen and I text each other almost every day now, just a comment on what is happening. It doesn’t take long, and it keeps us connected. I wish you had that with your friend.

I wish I did too. About a year or so ago, she told me she could text on her cell. We exchanged a few that day and I was elated. After that she hasn’t responded to any texts. She refuses to use email (doesn’t have a computer) so it is what it is.

I think it is wonderful that people can now attend church online, as there are many who find it difficult if not impossible to attend in person

The church we joined is 45 minutes away by car. It was fine when my husband was alive, but it is too far for me alone.

That is nice you can attend services online and unique to attend with a friend so far away from you. A friend/former co-worker is having difficulty hearing in the church and I suggested she find if her church is online. She did and learned it was on Facebook but she is not interested in joining Facebook. I said you don’t have to look at anything else while there, just use Facebook for viewing services.

I like going to church in person, but attending online is almost as good. The service is the same, but you don’t get to mingle with other people.

Yes, that is true too – it was a Godsend during COVID though. I remember a local church did not stream their services, but instead held their services on the grounds of the church under a tent (in inclement weather). I drove by once in late October and most of the congregation was huddled under big blankets.

We often sat on folding chairs on a sloping lawn during COVID. It was a little dangerous for us older folks.

Well hopefully another pandemic never forces us to take such measures.

I have missed you and keep hoping you will come back, even if only occasionally. You must be very busy. I remember with great fondness those hours we spent at your house. What a marvelous visit that was! I pray you also will have a blessed Easter.

That was such a good day! I always thought that at this phase of life it would slow down but for some reason it has not. I volunteer at a local thrift store, babysit grandkids occasionally and there always seems like things to do.

I stay busy, too, although I don’t volunteer anywhere. The days seem to fly by.
