Years ago, a doctor told me I had arthritis in my back and hips. I was only concentrating on total knee replacements at the time. Worrying about other body parts could wait until they demanded attention. In the last few months I realized I felt fine lying in bed, but as soon as the feet met the floor, there was PAIN! I have a new exit strategy now. I slip out of bed, hoping the body won’t notice, and stand still until I can walk without whimpering. Once I get going, it isn’t bad.
I used the new trimmer to cut the forsythia bush to a reasonable size. The branches I cut off were about 2 to 3 feet long. The view is still obstructed by trees on the other side of the fence, but I can see more than I used to.

We learn how to accommodate our weak spots until they need fixing!

It took a bit of patience, which is not my strong point.

My dad used to say, “Dear God, please give me patience. But make it quick!”

I haven’t heard that one in ages! I agree with it.

Thanks. I do still get out of bed every day, I just don’t dread it now.

might be time to re-evaluate the need for some help before things get any worse. We’re all thinking of you. Huge Hugs.

I am probably aging out of help if it requires surgery. Meanwhile, slowing down is helping. Thank you for thinking of me. Humongous hugs!

I feel with you; those first few steps when I get up are not fun, but it does get better as I warm up a little. C’est la vie.

I imagine warmer weather will make my bones feel a bit better. That might help you, too.

I find that doing some stretches as I get out of bed helps me get moving. I also take 3mg of boron at bedtime as it is supposed to help with arthritis.

I have not heard of boron being good for arthritis. It’s worth looking into. Thank you.

So sorry you are hurting. Yay for figuring out how to make it a bit better. I think turmeric and ginger are supposed to help arthritis pain.

I should look into those.

My mom used to take a while “to get going” too … she would say she reminded herself of the skit with the older couple on the Carol Burnett Show when she (Carol Burnett) asked him (Harvey Korman) to start her rocking chair so she could aim herself to sit down in it. I got shin splints from walking too much last weekend, so it is a good thing that I spent all day Tuesday glued to the kitchen chair for the computer issues and until 3:00 a.m. today sitting, while awaiting the tornado watch to clear … I may be up that long tonight with severe storms again. My shin splints – now cured.

I feel sorry for you waiting through severe storm warnings. That’s great that your shin splits have been cured.

I think I lose a few years off my life every time we have severe weather. I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. today to ensure it was safe, even though I have a weather alarm. We had multiple tornadoes in Michigan Thursday, but not near me and not to the extent as they’ve had in Missouri or Kentucky. Yes, I overdid it because it’s been raining a lot and I did not want to get behind and I wanted to get pics of the goslings from the two Mamas from my Mother’s Day post. I should be a little smarter about overdoing it though.

I think staying up for weather is nerve-racking. I haven’t done it often, but often enough.

I always think the weather alarm, which is very loud, will wake me up long enough before I’d need to run downstairs, but in that sleepy stupor, would I be “with it” enough? Although the night of the downed wire fire, I head that loud noise which I thought was the generator malfunctioning as I heard the noise, turned on the light and the power was off, then the generator turned on. The generator had malfunctioned since day #1 and it is behind my bedroom window – I was afraid the generator would blow up. There is a part of me that worries about the generator and we have many natural gas explosions … it is better to stay up. I am not comfortable with all this severe weather – people say “you have insurance – so why worry?” Well, I have nowhere to go if the house was demolished … that is, if I survived and was not injured … most people have family.

Bad weather is nicer with two people, not one alone. Sharing seems to help.

Yes, sharing helps rather than sitting here in solitude while worrying.

Nicely done Anne. I need to attack the bushes in the front yard like you have!

Up to now I trimmed all the bushes by hand. Who knew what a pleasure an electric trimmer could be? Good luck on your bushes.
