Physical Therapy

It became more and more of an effort to stand up straight, so I asked my doctor if she would recommend physical therapy. She agreed and added balance training. It goes with the territory. I’ve now had my first session and enjoyed it tremendously. The therapist is a “people person” who can talk to anyone about anything. The receptionist also joined in when she was nearby. What fun it was! I had a full hour of gentle routines which didn’t tax me at all. That may not last long, because I’m sure the workouts will intensify.

I left with a sheet of three exercises for me to do at home. They were explained with words and drawings. I did them later, then looked at the company app on my phone. Those exercises were included. There were animated clips and a timer for each. I saw that I could exercise with the app and have it entered into my record. Old school habits made me repeat everything to get credit for it. Some things never change!!

  1. How wonderful that the physical therapy is enjoyable. I’m pleased to hear you can continue the exercises at home as well. Good luck with it. xo

  2. I’m familiar with all of that! Its a great way to combine PT and home exercises to stay “accountable” to yourself and your therapists.
I still do the daily stretches and exercises some of them have me from the last time I did PT at the facility.

  3. I am glad the PT was fun. I hope it helps. I had to take a week off from my PT during my first week of recovery from my cataract surgery.

    1. I wonder at the difference between your cataract surgery and mine. I had no restrictions on bending down or of lifting heavy things. Maybe they figured I was too old to get into trouble.

      1. Based on the research Bruce did to find out why no bending over, the John Hopkins Medicine site said, “High eye pressure can interfere with the incision before it fully heals,” says Eghrari. “Positions that put your head below your waist, such as bending over, can also increase eye pressure and should be avoided initially after surgery.” Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting can also increase eye pressure.

My doctor’s office even mailed pre and post op instructions of what not to do. The nurse at the hospital also provided me a list of post op instructions that were more conservative than my doctor’s office instructions. My doctor’s office made it clear that I should follow the surgeon’s instructions over their instructions.

    1. Today the therapist was directing a man and me at the same time. We did very different exercises, and he kept track of both of us. There was general chat among us, and that was fun.
