I met neighbor Julie walking her small dogs and got caught in an odd embrace. One dog she has had several years, and the second is a new rescue from an older person who could no longer care for the dog. This was the first time I saw the dogs together. Julie and I faced each other, getting in a quick chat before we had to move on. I realized each dog kept walking, one on either side of me. I was hemmed in, so if Julie moved forward, she would be forced to hug me. Either we would hug, or we would have to extricate ourselves. Maybe she would raise one arm high, and I would duck under. Being about the same height, we might not have accomplished that smoothly.
I thought I had a solution, and without saying anything, I reached for one of the leashes. She immediately let me have it. I just pivoted outwardly, handing her the leash again with me on the other side. Awkwardness not needed! Julie accepted it without question. I was laughing inside, because I could have planned that move for a week and turned the wrong way or not done it gracefully. What a relief to have quick thinking solve a problem on demand!!
I never thought of you as one who would purposely avoid a hug Anne. They’re what makes life worthwhile.

I have hugged Julie before, but I didn’t want a hug with complications of dogs and leashes.
Hugs to you!

Ha Ha! I have often got tangled up with another person because of the dogs, and we have many male dog walkers too. We have always managed with out too much embarrassment.

Yes! But I wanted to be graceful!

You did good. The dogs probably just walked on with no issues. and it all went smoothly.

The dogs didn’t think too much about it, but thankfully didn’t wind their leashes around you both and trip you!

Today, though, one of those dogs climbed a steep bank. Julie ordered him to come down, and he flung himself right into my lower leg. Golly! It hurt! That blow startled me, but I didn’t tumble.

That’s terrible – I am glad you weren’t hurt or got knocked down – you don’t need to break any bones for goodness sake. You used to worry about that with Kacey if you had tried to take her for a walk.

I try to stay aware of dog dangers.

We have too many German Shepherds (mixed breed) and Pit Bull Terriers running around our City. Whenever the City Animal Shelter posts about found dogs, 99% of the time, it is pit bulls. I worry all the time about running into a stray one.

Dogs can be dangerous! Especially with long leashes attached, and without leashes as well. Still, I love them to bits. Hope you are okay now?

There was no danger that time, and I try to be very aware of dogs and their sudden movements. This is new, because am only now getting less balanced.
