Years and years ago I was given a tool for cutting and mashing an avocado. It lived in a cabinet, not even near other gadgets. Through the years, I’ve eaten avocado in restaurants, but I’d never bought one. When Shawn gave me this fruit they were not going to eat, I knew right where to find the tool.

I found a video on how to use it and quickly removed the flesh. Using the other end, I mashed it with a little salt, pepper, and lemon juice.

After adding diced onion, I put it on sourdough toast, as recommended. I read that avocado toast was very popular a few years ago. I obviously missed the fad, but the sandwich was delicious. I will do the same thing with the remaining half. This was a fun and tasty experience. Thank you Shawn and Bob!

What a cute gadget! I eat avocados all the time. I just love them. Today I sliced part of one onto a bagel spread with cream cheese. Your avocado toast looks very good.

Good! I’d like half the votes to be in favor of avocados, so they won’t get their feelings hurt.

Maybe the tool is heading to antique-dom. I’ve probably had it for 30 years.

I have never had avocado toast but yours looks delicious. I’ve actually never prepared anything with an avocado, just had it in guacamole when ordering at a Mexican restaurant.

I was at the grocery store this morning and the bananas are next to the avocadoes – they have “mini” avocadoes, something I’ve not seen before, but I don’t buy avocadoes either.

A knife and fork are probably all you do need to deal with avocados. I enjoyed my gadget, though.

The gadget looks good. We get avacados here but they are expensive. The sandwich looks delicious. We get so many recipes easily on the internet these days. All my old recipe books have been inside for a long time.

What a wonderful contraption! I wish I could eat avocados, but I have a bit of a digestive issue with them. They’re so tasty, so every once in a while I take a small bite–whether it’s a wedge of the fruit or a taste of guacamole. Yum!

Avocado with cottage cheese, a little salt on the cut-up pieces of avocado, a little pepper on the cottage cheese, and then I scoop it up together on a fork, it is heavenly. I came to eating avocado later in my life. I don’t know why…just never tried it. It is one of my favorite lunches now. I buy the four or five pack of miniatures. One is perfect for a meal, and for some reason they seem to ripen for me a bit easier and more reliably than the larger fruits. I like it on toast too, mashed up of course.

When I visited our son and his family in FL, I had smashed avocado which appears like yours only with a sunny side up egg and dollop of sour cream on top. Great breakfast treat. Most times, I prefer it served as a half with lemon juice. Or tossed in a salad too. Lovely post, Anne.

I love both hard boiled egg and sliced avocado in a salad too. The version I had in FL was on a 12 grain toast and open faced! Very nourishing and tasty. oxox
