My bathroom scales laughed before the sun rose on the first day of 2026! Where I expected to see a four-digit number, there was LO. Being used to LOL, I translate that to Laughing Out.
Just perhaps, it stands for “The battery is getting low. Time to change it.”
Before the scales could refuse to work, I found one button battery in the house that was the right thing. I’ll buy more today, but this won’t need to be changed for years. I may have replaced it two times in the last 10 years. Before I take another breath, I should send a mental thank you to the scales for being so faithful.

Hahaha! This made me laugh.
My scales are the plug in recharge ones. The first time they ran down, I had no idea what to do to fix things. I had long lost the papers and didn’t remember what it took to charge them. I did find a little plug hole and bravely stuck in a cord end that fit added a charger and plugged it in to the wall.
VOILA it worked!!!!😅😅😅

I know! I’m fortunate to not have that problem. I weighed 117 this morning. I am 5′ 5″.

You are right, but these days I don’t often get bad news from the scales. I’ve lost 130 pounds in the last 20 years.

LOL – New year’s day tends to be a day of reflection, and having the low battery on the scales short-circuits a common reflection.
