Computer Removal

Daughter Lise is in the process of getting the study updated. The first item was unplugging John’s computer. All the wires were tangled behind the small computer desk, so I crawled behind it to unplug each wire Lise jiggled.

I had to lie down to use both hands.

Lise suggested a victory photo after everything was unplugged.

This time I had no trouble getting up, knowing I had to take the phone out of my pocket and remove my sneakers. The hard drive will have to be wiped clean before we can give the computer away, but that can wait.

  2. I used to hate dealing with the tangle of wires behind the hutch downstairs … now it is just the laptop upstairs in the kitchen, so it is easier. Nothing was as bad (for me anyway) as years ago when the VCR was not recording audio, just the picture, so I took it into the Curtis-Mathes store where we bought it and the TV to have it repaired. I had all these sticky notes on the wires so I knew how to attach it again because the VCR was inside a piece of heavy furniture. I couldn’t see the back where it connected and had to use flashlights and a mirror. We ended up getting another TV and VCR downstairs which was on a rolling cart so when there were issues, I could see what I was doing (and also didn’t miss any shows). That was when there were great things on TV … miniseries, movies and TV programs, all on network television, so you had to watch it live or record it, no binge watching later.

      1. At one time, there were multiple things to watch on the same night and neither my mom nor I wanted to stay up seven nights a week to watch them. We taped a lot of stuff and watched on the weekend or in TV off-season and fast-forwarded. I watched “All Creatures Great and Small” which was six weeks and ended last Sunday and that’s the most TV I’ve watched since it was on last January-February.

          1. Well, that’s how we used to do it back then and I still have a lot of videos of movies that we never got to watch. I cancelled my cable in 2010 after my mom passed away, so I can’t get any stations now and unplugged both TVs which are very old models from years ago. I only watch a movie or TV online on my laptop now.

              1. The miniseries and movies were great back in the day. I don’t know any of the “stars” anymore anyway. I did enjoy the recent six-week run of “All Creatures Great and Small” – it was Season #5 and I read the books as they came out back and enjoyed them.
