Our lunch destination was the barbecue joint closest to my house. On the porch was a giant chair that David had to test, and I had to photograph (family imperatives).
The younger set chose a giant cookie to share and were willing to pose with it.
After dark we spent time on the front porch. David was totally at ease on the railing, which Lise had to record. I would not have done that, even when I was ten years old.
David was very willing to move furniture with Lise. Both worked really hard to dismantle the bunk bed that had come from my parents’ house years ago. My brother had it first as his childhood bed, then my parents used it as twin beds. After Dad’s death, it came to my house, was moved to NC, and was David’s bed for several years. I’m not ready to let it go yet.
We are many steps closer to having the two guest rooms sorted. Lise still plans to move dressers and bookcases so that the woods of the furniture will match. I will stand back in amazement as she gets everything in place.

If only I had 2 such energetic helpers! The chest by the closet where Lise and David are looks exactly like the one I have that was my parents’ when they first married. It had a dresser and bed. My son stripped all the paint that had been applied over the years and restored it to the original finish, which appears to be a reddish maple or perhaps cherry wood. He removed the knobs (same as your chest) and put new ones on, but I saved the originals and sanded the layers of paint from them, intending to put them back on the chest. They are still waiting for me to do it.

I think the chest belonged to husband John. All the drawers are difficult to open now.

That’s an interesting piece of furniture at the foot of the bed Lise was tending to. Is it a cedar hope chest?

It’s a cradle, turned over to be a seat. My dad had it made from wood from his farm, and my children were rocked in it.

That big cookie looks tasty! I remember you have shown pictures of David looking double-jointed before. I’d not squeeze myself onto a porch railing either. 🙂
