What a marvelous gathering we had on Memorial Day! All the neighbors were here, and the weather was perfect – sunny and cool. I’m sorry about only one thing. I failed to get Logan’s photo. He was not on the porch when we were pausing between the main meal and dessert.

Several years ago it was raining, so Jeff pulled his grill onto my porch. We’ve done that ever since, because he can visit with us while grilling our hot dogs and hamburgers. At one point today there was a lot of smoke pouring out of the grill. Birds in a large bush nearby began to complain loudly, because the smoke was bothering them. We surmised they have a nest there and resented being smoked out. None of us blamed them.
Holly promised to bring deviled eggs as her contribution to the meal. We all love that, because it’s a tedious job to hard boil eggs, make the filling with the yolks, and put the filling in the egg whites. She made it look so easy that I had to take a video. She had put the filling in a plastic bag, then cut one of the corners to squeeze the filling out with a flourish. When she was finished, she just threw the bag away. Brilliant!
This was our first time being together this year, and everyone was catching up with the big news that Joyce is moving this summer. She has signed a contract to sell her house and is going through all the steps that entails. We are pleased that she will be near her two granddaughters, although we will miss her very much.
I love deviled eggs. They bring back memories of every Southern gathering I ever went to as a child.

I love them, too. I’m so glad my mom made them.

What a wonderful get-together. I love devilled eggs, but don’t often make them as they are a bit fiddly.

I’ve gotten past the fiddly bit with deviled eggs. After I stir together the filling, I bite one egg white in half and take an appropriate amount with a spoon and pop it in my mouth. It doesn’t have to be fancy to taste delicious.

LOL! I just make egg salad sandwiches, which is essentially the same ingredients!!

My deviled eggs are a far cry from attractive! I just plop the filling in there with a spoon. Everyone gobbles them down without a thought to what they look like! lol

Yay for you! It’s the taste that matters. I skip putting the filling in the whites, since I eat them alone. I just take a spoonful of filling with each egg white.

Sounds good to me. I usually eat several spoonsful while I am making them. lol

We really needed the rain so no complaining allowed.

We have been in a drought so rain is desirable. Mostly we’ve had sprinkles instead of real rain

We are too. We had 2 inches of nice slow rain over 3 days. It was delightful but unfortunately canceled a lot of planned activities. They say we are not out of the drought yet.

Deviled eggs are tricky to make, but so delicious, and easy to consume in quantity. It looks like you and your neighbors had a perfect day.

Yes, we enjoyed being together after a long season of cold weather. We neighbors will be outside more now, and will stop to chat from time to time.

What a nice day. It’s good to know Logan was there, even if not pictured. Kudos to Holly for the deviled eggs. I wouldn’t want to take on the task of making them for a large gathering. I might do 4-6 eggs for my husband and me but not more than that.

Similarly to you, I really enjoy it when warm weather arrives and neighbors emerge from their homes and it’s so much easier to have fun gatherings.
