I’m always a bit on edge the days I get an injection in my eye. I try not to worry, even though I’m really good at worrying, but that is not the way to live. Anyone who says they trust God to take care of them should trust him with EVERYTHING. I was ready for the bus that would take me to Sylva. I did a few things at the back of the house, and as I came to the front, I saw the bus already in the driveway. It was at least 20 minutes early. I was ready the required one and a half hours before my appointment, and he was earlier than that! I grabbed my pocketbook and rushed to the door. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The bus was backing out of the driveway!! Thankfully, he saw me and pulled back in.
As I climbed into the bus, I said he was earlier than I expected. He said he had another passenger, and I saw a woman in a wheelchair behind me. She was going to the same office, though she was having an evaluation rather than an injection.
If the driver followed the usual procedure, he would have called the dispatcher, who would then have called me. I looked back at my phone record, and there was no call from Haywood Transit. The driver felt he had done his duty, but I would have been left behind with no way to keep my appointment.
At the doctor’s office, the receptionist couldn’t find my papers, I said the bus got me there very early. The wheelchair woman rolled up and said, “And the bus got me here late.”
When I was finished, I went outside and spoke to the bus driver. I told him I’d wait inside for the other woman, so she wouldn’t have to call the office. As she rolled toward the desk, I told her I was the one who had been in the bus with her, because she kept saying she couldn’t see anything. We went outside together, and the driver pulled in to get us. It all ended happily.
What an adventure, Anne! Seeing the bus backing out of your driveway must have been quite a shock, especially with such an important appointment ahead. I’m so glad the driver spotted you in time and that everything worked out happily in the end. Sometimes those close calls make us especially grateful! ❤️🙏

After I was seated in the bus, I found out the price had risen from $12 to $20! Luckily, I had enough money with me.

I’ve been using the bus service for over four years, and this is the first rate hike.

I’m still surprised you didn’t get a notice when you scheduled. Maybe they would have honored you as a long term customer if you didn’t have enough money on you. You look like a very honest person! 🙂

I’m glad it ended well, but that bus driver will be losing his job if he keeps up those antics!

They might have changed some of the rules. Maybe I was required to be ready 2 hours ahead, rather than 1.5. The rate changed since I rode 10 weeks ago!

Okay … the rate changed due to high gas prices maybe? That’s too bad. When I took the bus to get allergy shots one time because there had been a lot of snow and ice, my allergist is right at the border line of two cities, just outside my city, so I had to pay an extra token ($2.00) for being across Northline Street. (We have to buy tokens in groups of 10). I thought that was silly … I’ll bet mine has raised their rates too. I got on the bus at 9:00 a.m. (first one on) and didn’t get to the doctor’s office until 11:30! We picked up and dropped off everyone but me! A few minutes later and the office would have stopped taking patients as they cut off at 11:45 since they close for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. and I would have had to wait outside until they re-opened an hour later! The kicker was I got in, the “shot girl” said she couldn’t squeeze enough serum to make a full shot for each arm, so I had to reschedule. I said “no way – gimme what you’ve got!”

God had to have been in charge. How else would everything have worked out so well?

One would think they would have a better system to notify customers of changes.

Yes. Even a notice posted in the bus would have helped me.
