Lise is Home

Daughter Lise was here for six glorious weeks, and now she is safely home in Denmark. We seem to have had an eating frenzy the last few days, but that’s because I don’t think of taking people’s photos until we sit down for a meal. Neighbor Holly took us out to eat quite close to home, and I was happy to be at Kobe’s once again. We enjoyed Holly and Denise, who divides her time between Florida and here.

Lise and I were with neighbor Shawn at Jukebox Junction. Lise and I wanted to go there for fried clams, but clams are no longer on the menu. Other choices were good, though I doubt we’ll go back often.

Because of my facial surgery, Lise and I had not been taking a daily walk in the morning. We made an exception to go halfway, where we stopped for Lise to pet CAT.

Our final eating expedition was at Culver’s before dropping Lise at the airport. Denise was our driver, since I won’t drive in heavy city traffic. On the way home, there were several cloud bursts.

Lise had a long wait, since her flight was quite late. She wasn’t sure she would make her connection in Atlanta. Everything seemed to finally be working out, until the plane landed and did not proceed to a gate. There was a medical emergency on another plane, which kept all other planes away from the terminal. As she sat there, she knew her flight to Amsterdam was boarding. By the time she got to the gate, the door had been shut. Normally that would mean she would wait for the next flight the following day. Marvelously, they opened the door for her and left immediately after that! Whew!

The next morning an app showed me she had landed in Amsterdam, and a few hours later she was in Copenhagen. She texted that she thought her suitcase made it with her! There have been numerous times when luggage followed her a day or so later, both here and in Denmark.

Friday with Magda and Basia

Our special visitors walked with Lise and me, wanting the full experience of living here. CAT came out to greet us, and Magda petted her.

I was so busy talking that I turned around at the stop sign and kept going. Everyone agreed to backtrack for the obligatory photo.

We had a Southern breakfast of biscuits and scrambled eggs, with the addition of livermush. That is a local dish, which I learned about from reading a novel set in the mountains of North Carolina.

Grandson David joined us to go to the nearest barbecue joint. Magda has had barbecue here, and she felt Basia should experience it, too. Nobody complained. David did do something different, though, choosing smoked chicken instead of pork.

I took a photo of Magda, sitting in the huge chair at the BBQ place.

David had a different perch on a cart in Ingles. We always take our European guests to my favorite supermarket. They aren’t required to love it, but they usually enjoy the experience.

Reading the Slippers

Daughter Lise said she was not using the step stool to get up on the high bed, but she would spring and roll to go to bed. Just after we got up, I was in her room and saw the evidence. By reading the slippers for placement and direction, I knew which side of the bed she was using and that she went head first. The evidence was right there on the floor.

A little later she walked to the creek with us, and her now-sneakered feet stopped for her to pet CAT. It was foggy, making CAT’s house look a bit spooky.

Grandson David, son John $, and Lise played disc golf at the rec center. She had David take her photo to mark the occasion. Last week David thrashed about in a brier patch to retrieve a disc, and another day he swam in the creek (brr!) to pull out a disc that was hung on a rock under water. This day $ lost a disc that was quite visible – on the roof. I’m sure they didn’t want their games to be that exciting.
