The day after neighbors Joyce and Dawn said they had two hummingbirds on their feeders, I hung out my feeder. I was shocked to see a bird sip from mine outside the back porch within two hours! A little later I put the other feeder on the front porch for the first time. While I was sitting in a rocker, up came a hummer for a quick sip! While I was filling things, I put water in the shallow birdbath on the railing. The sun was shining on the water, instantly reflecting a shimmering circle on the porch ceiling. What a marvelous day of firsts! I do believe Spring is actually going to come here this year!

Oh! Magda! How I wish you were here to see the hummingbirds!
How lovely to be able to watch hummers while sitting on your front porch!

Do it!!
My brother said he has had hummingbird feeders out for two weeks in central NC. He hasn’t seen a bird on one yet. It may take a while longer for them to get to you.

My mother fed hummers in TN, but I never saw them on Long Island. They may have been there, but not for me. I love watching them here in NC.

My neighbor feeds them. I used to see some on the flowering plants in my yard but haven’t for a couple of years now.

They are harder to see in their natural feeding places.

Yes they are and they are fast. Several years ago before we lost so many trees and shrubs to storms one tried to sit on my nose. It made me laugh. Another time one sat in a shrub and we looked at each other for a few seconds before it fly off.

I tried to stay as still as possible to see how long they would stay with me. It was fun.

Wonderful! My dad used to tell me that the hummers arrived in Michigan the first week in May, so I guess we still have to wait a few weeks.

You’re lucky as I just read ours will be here in the next week or so, per the Hummingbird Migration Map. Enjoy all your birds!

How great that you have hummingbirds! I haven’t put out the flower baskets that usually attract them here yet. These warmer days mean I need to clean the veranda and get my summer flower pots planted.
