When neighbor Logan (8) returned a sled to our house, he asked, “Did you see the poem?” He was referring to Rooster’s poetic comment on my blog (https://amehrling.com/2019/01/29/it-snowballed/) about Logan and his dad having a snowball fight. I sent the poem to Shawn, and she shared it with Bob and Logan. The adults got a kick out of it, and Logan loved it. His reaction? “I’m famous!”
Today Logan was allowed to come over after he did his chores at home. After playing inside for a while, he asked David to throw a football with him outside. He said to me, “Can you take a video and post it on your blog?” I didn’t have to be asked twice.
When the fellows got hot tossing the football, guess where they hung their jackets. On a mailbox! I’m not the only one who uses a mailbox for short-term storage!
We were active inside, also. Logan suggested we play Monkey in the Middle with a balloon. Two batted a balloon back and forth, and the other was in the center trying to catch it. Logan evened the playing field a bit by asking David to sit or kneel on the floor. I loved the way David avoided catching it immediately when he was the monkey. The fellows also played an intense game of checkers.
We went to Haywood Cafe for lunch. The two left-handers sat on the same side of the table and were soon engrossed in watching TV. There were football players in a contest to see who was the most accurate in throwing balls at moving targets. That was very appropriate for our activities of the day.
Ha! Looks like Logan is all set for a career in film 🙂 Chris and I always do the left-hander shuffle when dining with others, too since he’s a lefty.

We were shocked at how warm it was outside Saturday afternoon. Just that morning I saw heavy ice on the rim of the stream.

It’s fun watching Logan grow. His interests are widespread. He talks sports with his dad and participates in teams at school. His mother is artistic, and he is interested in music. He was baptized at church several weeks ago. He is surrounded by all kinds of good things. We pray for him, knowing his birth mother was on drugs before he was born. His family is constantly on the lookout for addictive behavior.

I had never seen Logan play with a football before. The camera managed to catch his receiving the ball and passing it back to David. Thanks for watching it.

Logan’s changing facial structure is evident in your blog’s pictures over the years. Seems like he is a lot busier than when was smaller these days. Glad he dropped in to say a long “hello” and also stopped by for lunch. You have created a great memory for you between you, Rooster and his parents( the poem).

I was amazed at Logan’s response to Rooster’s poem. Wouldn’t most children read it and run off to play? He was still talking about it a day or so after he read it.

What a little bundle of energy Logan is. David is very good to keep Logan occupied despite the obvious age difference.

David always had an interest in children and is at ease with them. I love the way he encourages children gently.
Logan is used to older people, too. He is adopted, and his siblings were already living independently when he came to Shawn and Bob.
Have you some recent photos of your precious grandchildren?

Funny Logan likes his notoriety – most kids his age don’t know what a blog is. 🙂
