Kacey LIED to Me!

I stayed up late Saturday night and planned to sleep through David’s leaving for church. The streamed service I planned to watch wouldn’t start until 8 am. Kacey started to bark at about 6:45, going on incessantly. When I came out, David was gone and Kacey danced a jig to tell me she desperately needed to go outside. I threw on clothes in a rush. That lying dog ran to the side yard, then she sniffed every blade of grass in her usual path, while pausing to sniff the air and look all around. There was absolutely no need for us to rush out. If I spoke enough “dog”, I would have reprimanded her.

I did check the cam footage from the front porch. I could see where David’s car was turned on at 6:47, and he would have driven off soon after. What I didn’t see was dog and man walking in the front. David must have taken her out in the back, but it was certainly enough to take care of her needs for several hours.

This was a very long Sunday for David, and one that Kacey and I didn’t want to share. He was at church for a brief rehearsal before the early service, and I saw him on the screen with the bell ringers and sitting in the congregation. After that, there were rehearsals for bells and choir then performing again in the late service. I’m fairly sure most of the ringers would have left after performing, but David ran the sound board. He helped the choir director move bells back to the music room and left church at 2 pm. He kindly did the week’s shopping near church and headed home. Last week he was caught in stopped traffic on the interstate, so this time he remembered and had me check the map. There was another massive tie-up, so he knew to get off two exits early. He got home at 3:30, gone for a total of 8 ¾ hours.

Later in the day Kacey heard me tell David that she tricked me. She insisted on her innocence for demanding to go out. “I HAD to sniff everything carefully in case something had changed. It’s my duty to protect you.”

    1. The time away from home included 45 minutes of driving each way. We live too far from church, but we like the services and the people. It didn’t become impossible until the dog came here to live.

David came home and took a nap, but he has recovered now.

    1. Yes, they are doing a fair bit of music. He generally does the sound board (controlling microphones) for the late service. Moving equipment took a while today. There are very formal services coming up — Palm Sunday and Easter. After that, perhaps things will be less frenetic. Summer is a time when the choir doesn’t rehearse very often. The schedule may change when we get a new pastor. I miss being with people at church, but being away from home that long is a bit much.

      1. I remember when David was first learning the sound board – you took photos that day. Is your bus ride you take only available for medical appointments or can you take it other times – I remember you had to schedule ahead of time. That might be an option to return home earlier, or arrive later. [I have finally caught up in Reader – I hope I am never that behind again, but you know it will happen … after the 3-day internet outage after the ice storm I was 18 days behind and I have struggled to catch up. Whew!]

        1. Anyone in the county can use the bus service. I was told I could meet a friend for lunch in town if I wanted to. I’ve used it only for medical appointments. Going outside the county, to two towns nearby, is different. Half the time I’ve been the only one riding, and the driver stays in the vicinity to pick me up. I wouldn’t eat or go shopping. In Waynesville, though, you call the main number to be picked up, and the next available driver takes you home. It’s $6 in county and $12 to Asheville or Sylva.

          1. OK, I see, then you have to pay $12.00 as your church is in Asheville … that would be too long of a time to ask him to wait but you could go home with David. It will get better after Easter as you said and at least you can watch services online. I did not realize you could use the service for anywhere – I thought it was only medical.

      1. We will be close to home for a month and then we will go to Port Aransas. We plan to be on the road for 5-7 years or as long as we can afford the lifestyle 😊

        1. Wow!! That is marvelous! I have lots to look forward to. It’s good that you are an established blogger. I have followed several full-time RV-ers as they began their new lifestyle, and they posted a few months to a couple of years and quit writing. I still wanted more.

          1. Yes, I am glad I was already a blogger when we started our journey. I made my blog into a travel blog when we started our new lifestyle in November in Junction, Tex. and named it for the beautiful twisted tree that was in the Rv park we first stayed at!

            1. I lost my comment here. I was saying I like the name of your blog. It’s imaginative and rolls off the tongue easily. I hope you have family members who will read your posts regularly. Everyone knows I write, but a few are too busy to read my posts, and most never comment. It’s great to have faithful blogging friends like you.

              1. Yes, exactly! I value your readership and comments as well, and I’m still planning a trip to see you someday when we get to N. Carolina! After the Tx coast, we will start trekking along the southern coast and make our way up the eastern seaboard. ☺️

  1. Dogs will do that! We moved the clocks ahead last weekend. Our dogs of course didn’t change their internal clocks so we got to sleep an extra 45 minutes. We don’t plan to tell them about the change.

  2. Glad Kacey’s attorney used the “defending the home-front” argument, but honestly, what jury could convict those eyes?

  3. great post! I hear what you are saying about Kelsey tricking you into taking her outside. I don’t have a dog, Bob was the dog person. I’m down to two cats now, and one of them ran up a veterinary bill near $400. How can these people look ya straight in the eye and calmly tell us that they were confiscating the current gas bill/light bill combined to cover the emergency vet bill!
