A Blank Look

When grandson Nathaniel is here, I don’t use the foyer mirror because of his amusing ritual of putting it up high. This morning I turned to check my hat before going out. The mirror was in the correct spot, and I thought I was in front of it. It was blackish-BLANK! Two things went through my mind. Either my eyes had failed, or the magic mirror responded to the question of who was fairest in the land. It picked nobody, and that nobody was blanked-out ANNE!

With relief, I realized the mirror was showing the living room, still dark because the sun had not come up. Blame that on the change to daylight savings time. I tried to calculate when to set my alarm, to dress and walk out 30 minutes after the official sunrise. When set correctly, the clock gets us up in time to get back home before Old Sol peeks above our backyard mountain. The alarm will be right in another week. The photos below show what I saw and what I should have seen.

  1. Ha ha – I was liking that it was light out so early – since I don’t go out once I come home I would have liked DST not to happen. I am easing into changing the rest of the clocks. I didn’t do the digitals on Sunday as we had that gusty wind event – we have another one coming in Thursday afternoon … so maybe I’ll just take my time with this time-changing nonsense.

      1. Mine changed itself as I never changed it for the November time change – I don’t spend much time there in the Winter (my reasoning).’ Happily the speaker phone adjusts on its own but it takes a full day to get that accomplished.

  2. You will laugh at this Anne…I love the photo of you, but my eyes were immediately drawn to all those interesting books. What fun it is to see and explore the libraries of other who love to read. I’m intrigued, and wonder what titles the spines would reveal. Have a happy day…Spring is coming soon.

    1. I wish I were the reader in this house. I have one book on my bedside table waiting to be read. I read lots of blogs, though!

The books that caught your eye are in John’s office. Those shelves hold his books on music, theology, and general history. Other music books are in the living room. One guest bedroom is decorated with ships and has all his ship books. The other guestroom has trains, along with books on trains.

In the kitchen I have one shelf with cookbooks.

Are your books scattered about your house?

      1. Yes, a bit, but the majority are in my grandmother’s China cabinet. She was a big reader and keeping them there just seemed right.

  3. I love the titles of your blog posts- I must take classes from you, Anne.
They told us the US has set its clocks straight again in our university. For us it just means that if we need to talk to anyone in the US, we don’t need to wait out until 5 pm our time any more( 4 pm would be enough- 4 pm is when we stop working here as our rule). Glad you found out the cause of your blanking out.
