We had a busy week with our grandsons. On David’s day off, we went to Linville Falls. We walked .4 mile on a gravel path and stood on a large flat boulder to see the low falls.

The wide pool seemed to be a quiet place for the water to gather energy to hurl itself down the gorge.

Back in the car, David reveled in the space for his legs. The middle seats had been removed so that he could sleep on an air mattress at the train club. As a selfie, this was unusual. I held the camera and had him direct me for the best angle. My gray hair was watching from the front seat.

Nathaniel came for the weekend and cooked breakfast and lunch on his one full day here. I took a photo of his luscious biscuits. [Biscuit lovers Karen and Al, wish you could have been here!] Not pictured were the strips of bacon he prepared for John and sausage links for the rest of us. He took orders for the eggs, so that everyone had what they wanted. John chose an omelet, and David opted for scrambled eggs. Nathaniel and I had our eggs sunny side up. I have never been able to cook a presentable one, and his were perfection.

For lunch, Nathaniel grilled three kinds of brats and the lovely squash neighbor Logan brought from the garden. I took a picture of Nate’s technique of eating two brats in a foot-long bun.

In the afternoon Logan came over, and inevitably a balloon made its entrance. The still shot shows Nathaniel, John, and Logan with the feet of Logan’s dad.

We were batting the balloon while talking with Bob. I sat there, letting the pocket camera observe the action. Logan seemed to be in two or three places at once. My foot appeared for a second at the bottom of the screen as I kicked the yellow balloon back into action. My apologies to Bob for such a fractured conversation.
Another naked brat eater. lol. Those biscuits look awesome. I can just taste them, dripping with butter and either homemade jelly or honey. YUM!

Nathaniel’s biscuits are mouth-watering. We didn’t have homemade jam, but we did have Amish strawberry rhubarb Jan and preach butter. Wish we could have shared that breakfast with you.

Oh, the Amish rhubarb jam sounds yummy.

We were surprised that the rhubarb flavor of the jam was topped by strawberry. We assumed the rhubarb would be more assertive. Next time I eat it, I’m going to think rhubarb and see if my brain can boost the taste of it.

Bob must be well used to fractured conversations as Logan’s dad. He’s hard to keep pace with.Your trip out was obviously a hit with David having that much leg room. I’m glad the chef came home for long enough to do you two meals, a great breakfast with everyone’s wishes catered for and a meal dedicated to brats.

You are so lucky to have a grandson who cooks and does it so well. It’s breakfast time now and this post made me even hungrier!

Yes! We are lucky to have a grandson who cooks. His main interest is bread. His biscuits were wonderful, and he brought me a sourdough starter. I used to bake all the sourdough bread we ate, but I quit when we moved to England. I’m eager to try it again.

What a lovely couple of days you had! I often think that kids are in multiple places at once

I can’t imagine how you keep track of a room full of children. To me, that would be worse than babysitting a bunch of spiders. My esteem for teachers is in the stratosphere.

Those biscuits look so amazing! The waterfall is absolutely beautiful. Logan has so much energy, if only we could bottle it 😊

How nice Nathaniel got back to visit – is he done with his job for the Summer and ready to start his second school year? Maybe he keep the job part-time as it was right on campus as I recall. Those biscuits look yummy – my mom made me biscuits and sausage gravy every 4th of July holiday and that was an incentive to do a nice job cleaning the windows, a job I didn’t care for too much as I don’t like climbing on ladders. You and i talked about that sausage gravy a while ago and I still haven’t tried it.

Nathaniel is really getting busy with his campus job now that the athletes have come back early. I think regular students will come next week. He will have this job for the year.
I haven’t prepared sausage gravy yet, since I’m the only one who would eat it. Maybe Nathaniel would. David would try it if it weren’t too spicy.

That’s good that Nathaniel will have the job through school. That sausage gravy is spicy, lots of black pepper in it, but tasty.

You have to broaden John’s horizons. 🙂 My mom did not care for it either, so I had to eat the entire pot of it myself – it was a hardship I tell you!
